So proud of @dr_yusefsalaam who came out wanting to make a change, and how do we make change? By getting involved. Reminder, April 19, 1989, Black and Latino teens were arrested for allegedly raping a jogger in Central Park. Trump took out ads calling for their execution. They spent over a decade in prison before being exonerated. Trump doubled down after exoneration. If Trump were president then, he would have shipped them off to El Salvador without due process to spend the rest of their lives. #DemsUnited

She focused on the issues of Foundational Black American women, including unemployment, illiteracy, and voter awareness. She was also well known for her hats and hat collection, many of them made by a Black Washington, D.C., milliner, Vanilla Beane, one of which was featured on Height's USPS stamp. Portions of her hat collection have been shown in museums. Dorothy was the president of the National Council of Negro Women for 40 years. Height's role in the "Big Six" civil rights movement was frequently ignored by the press due to sexism. While attending Rankin High School in Pittsburgh, PA, Dorothy became socially and politically active in anti-lynching movement. She also won a $1000 scholarship for being the school’s top orator. She was accepted into Bernard College of Columbia University in 1929, but was denied entrance due to an unwritten policy that only two Black students were accepted per school year. She attended NYU instead. In 1990, Height, along with 15 other African Americans, formed the African-American Women for Reproductive Freedom. Height received the Presidential Medal of Freedom from President Bill Clinton in 1994. President Obama lovingly named Dorothy the godmother of civil rights. She was an honored guest at the his inauguration in 2009 where she sat on the stage. President Obama also delivered the eulogy at her funeral. A true hero indeed.
