They allow for the existence of resistible grace only so that God does not become the one who damns. The Reformed don't have monopoly on this concept.

One can see how this can easily leads one astray from true wisdom. First; "the truth that is required to be saved" does not include "all things that are true", only those truths that have been handed to us by the church fathers. You are allowed by God's mercy to be wrong about some things provided you don't make those things required of others. The sin state of Mary is part of this latter category. (This is the mistake of Rome.) Second; God didn't HAVE to be born in order to be incarnated. He could have just willed a body into being. But it was judged fitting by His good pleasure that He would be like us in all ways but our falleness. Just so, it was not required but fitting for His mother, who was one flesh with Him, to be in such a state as well. It was required that Jesus be born immaculate and fitting that it be miraculous. It was fitting that Mary either be born or made immaculate. Since it was not required of her, it is no problem that her mother was not too immaculate.
