do not understand the backlash against the (proposed) Iran reconstruction fund. Reconstruction is a normal way to end a war!

In the end, rather than have a ceremony in Geneva with nominal deputies (Vance and Qalibaf), Iran and the US opted to have the agreement signed simultaneously by heads of government (President Trump and President Pezeshkian), with footage of the event. A move to ensure the MOU is seen as credible, and likely another concession to Iran--Qalibaf would not have consented to a photo op with Vance.

BREAKING: The US has released the full text of its 14-point "Memorandum of Understanding" with Iran. Key terms include: 1. The US, Iran, and their allies agree to immediately and permanently end military operations on all fronts, including in Lebanon 2. The US and Iran agree to respect each other's sovereignty and territorial integrity and not interfere in each other's internal affairs 3. The US and Iran commit to negotiating and reaching a final deal within 60 days, unless mutually extended 4. The US will begin removing its naval blockade immediately and fully end the blockade within 30 days 5. Iran will use its best efforts to ensure safe passage for commercial vessels through the Strait of Hormuz for 60 days with no charge 6. The US and regional partners will develop a mutually agreed plan of at least $300 billion for Iran's reconstruction and economic development 7. The US will work toward terminating all types of sanctions against Iran, including UN, IAEA, primary, and secondary sanctions 8. Iran reaffirms that it will not procure or develop nuclear weapons and agrees to address its enriched material stockpile under IAEA supervision 9. Until a final deal is reached, Iran will maintain the current status quo of its nuclear program, while the US will impose no new sanctions and deploy no additional forces 10. The US Treasury will issue waivers for Iranian crude oil, petroleum products, derivatives, and associated banking, insurance, and transportation services 11. The US will make frozen or restricted Iranian funds and assets fully available for use 12. The US and Iran will establish an executive mechanism to monitor implementation of the MOU and future compliance with the final deal 13. The failure to keep Hormuz open is a military failure. The US military had 35 years to plan for this. And their plan was to sink the Iranian Navy. Using ships + submarines was Iran's plan for closing Hormuz 20 years ago. But not today, which is why most ships never left port.

Make no mistake: This MOU is a capitulation to the Iranian terrorist regime, potentially more dangerous than Obama's JCPOA. This will rejuvenate a terrorist regime with nuclear ambitions committed to global ideological domination through terrorism. 🚩Immediate lifting of the U.S. Naval blockade. 🚩Immediate sanctions waivers, worth $3 billion+ each month. This encompasses petrochemical products along with related banking and insurance services. 🚩NO prohibition on Iran imposing tolls through the Strait of Hormuz. 🚩NO prohibition in Iran's funding of terrorist proxies. 🚩NO agreed upon full dismantling of Iran's nuclear weapons program. 🚩NO agreed upon removal of the regime's enriched uranium. 🚩NO prohibition on uranium enrichment. 🚩NO mention of Iran's ballistic missile program. 🚩Attempts to force Israel into halting its fight against Hezbollah. 🚩Unfreezes $100 billion + of regime assets, nearly 2x the annual regime budget. 🚩Proposes at LEAST $300 billion (from non-U.S. sources) for the regime to "develop its economy." Because money is fungible, they will be equipped to rebuild their depleted missile program, fund Hezbollah and Hamas, and almost certainly advance their nuclear ambitions. Comparing this to the Marshall Plan is Orwellian. The Marshall Plan came after unconditional surrender and full eradication of the Nazi regime.

Trump says Iran needs to have ballistic missiles as other countries have them too.

The US has circulated its version of the Memo of Understanding with Iran to G7 leaders in France. It’s as bad if not worse than expected. — The moment it’s signed (Friday) sanctions on the export of Iran oil are lifted. So the regime can start replenishing its coffers immediately. — The US commits to doing nothing to undermine or destabilise the Iranian regime (it started the war to remove it). — The US specifically commits to ending its blockade of the Strait of Hormuz but Iran does not commit specifically to returning the Strait to toll/fee free transit exactly as before the war, with no Iranian control/regulation whatsoever . — All sanctions against Iran will be dropped should phase two negotiations go well. And America will withdraw its forces from the region. — The US ‘undertakes’ to work with Iran and Gulf allies to create a $300 billion reconstruction package for Iran. So America will now become a partner with the tyrants of Tehran, who Trump only recently wanted to overthrow, in rebuilding their economy. — All matters related to Iran’s nuclear capabilities are kicked into the ‘final agreement’ in 60 days time (or longer if necessary). — No mention of Iran’s ballistic missile capabilities or its financing of terrorist proxies. And that’s just about it. When Trump insisted the war would only end with ‘unconditional surrender’ it never crossed my mind he meant his own.
