@AngelJawed @Gormogons It seems to have worked out that as smoking was being phased out of public life, processed foods became more prevalent as well. In effect, one unhealthy agent was replaced with another.

Rx Smoking is highly addictive and incredibly bad for you health, and as a cardiologist, I do not recommend starting. That being said, things seem to have gone off the rails after smoking was ostracized from the public square...I know correlation is not causation.

Rx Smoking, definitely smoking. Neither is good, but just with regard to atherosclerotic disease alone, the disease is far less severe in folks who never smoked compared to active smokers. Indeed, I rarely have an active smoker in my clinic anymore given all the cessation efforts.
