@jan_murray Men can’t really cope with the fact that women grow life. It’s the most amazing thing in the universe. So amongst other things men built religions so that we can revere a higher entity (male obvs) the ultimate creator! Women stay in your place. I’m embarrassed as a male.

Apparently dads get postnatal depression now. And this brave chap is raising awareness of it via a Times article. I’m not saying becoming a father isn’t a big adjustment for men. Of course they should get help if that leads to depression. But it’s women whose bodies are, literally, changed by conception, pregnancy, birth and breastfeeding. Not just by the physical changes and challenges, but by the hormonal changes that go with them. And this feels like just another example of women not being able to have anything for themselves - including the very thing only their bodies can do. Not every aspect of female experience needs a male equivalent.

A man (Samantha Tempest, here abbreviated to ST) is arguing in court that he belongs in a group for menopausal women. It is pointed out to him that menopause is the cessation of ovulation and that, being a man who never started, let alone ceased, ovulating he does not belong in such a group. He disagrees. He says he's had 'menopausal symptoms' like hot flushes and brain fog. This is like me claiming to have been in the army because I once shot an air rifle and quite like khaki.

@PolitlcsUK @spectator The practical implications are significant. The likely unintended consequence are significant. But hey it sounds good so let’s shove it out there as we’re progressive and can do no wrong. 🥴

@LukeTryl Luke, This is brilliant and shows real insight. I would offer an additional context as to why pms fail. History shows you can’t retain power, keep your party apparatus and stakeholders on side and meet electorate expectations. It is this triumvirate which is ungovernable. 🤷‍♂️

🧵There’ll likely be a rush to call British public ungovernable in the wake of Starmer’s resignation. But blaming the voters is a cop out, and imo the reason for 5 PMs in 6 years is that all of them stuffed up in avoidable ways. Going through them:

@_CryMiaRiver @Glinner You are absolutely right Mia. There is no such thing as transgender. But belief is a strong and powerful force. There is no god but that doesn’t stop 6 billion people believing. Trans is a powerful belief and will take years to break down sadly.

A disgruntled comment on YouTube under my latest talk, during which I said very plainly that transgender children do not exist, contained this supposed gotcha: "The idea that transgender children do not exist flies in the face of reality, since we know that transgender adults do exist. How do we then explain their existence?" Simple. Transgender adults don't exist either. At least not in the sense that would require the existence of transgender children. There are many adults alive today who make sense of their lives through the political label of transgender. They may be autogynephilic men aroused by the fantasy of being women, who prefer the label transgender because it allows them to hide their erotic motivations. They may be transvestites, aroused simply by wearing women's clothing. They may be extremely gender-nonconforming homosexuals who medicalise as a way to blend in and be invisible. Or they may fall into that broad category who adopt the currently fashionable label of trans because it makes sense of their struggles and offers them a medical solution. Clearly, not one of those categories could ever be applied to children. The reply actually makes clear the danger of pretending that trans is a healthy, innate variation of human existence rather than rooted in paraphilic desires and mental disorder. So I stand by my statement: There is no such thing as a transgender child. I will die on this hill.

@VanceFry @Glinner People believe what they want to believe. Belief trumps facts, logic, science, any kind of rational thought or reasoning. Every religion is testimony to this. The association with others with the same beliefs is a powerful force.

@Glinner A decent chunk of people who are generally part of the 80 in the 80/20 issue will, unfortunately, never be convinced that trans isn't a real condition. Even notable legal proceedings cede the territory of that basic metaphysical claim.

Why does everyone accept there's such a thing as 'trans people'? If there were, we would have a definition by now. But you never hear the same one twice.

Hobbes update. Because he’s been in & out of a cone for nearly 4 months now, due to his obsessive-compulsive desire to eat his own leg, through no fault of his own, he’s now on a crash diet. He’s back at school from next week 🤞🏻so, hopefully, he can ditch the junk from his trunk… Go Hobbes! You can do it!!

@BenObeseJecty Ben, if you feel the government totally disregards you as an MP just spare a thought for how we feel as citizens. (Jury trials, net zero, gender woo, Chagos, housing targets, immigration, tax rates, water shortages, sewage treatment, freedom of speech……). We’re totally ignored.

“I say to the Government, take this House more seriously. Members of Parliament are having a very bad time from Government, who seem to have a total disregard for us.” Yesterday the Speaker of the House was forced to intervene as the Government refuses to answer my question and reveal how many noise and vibration injuries were sustained in Ajax after the Initial Operating Criteria was achieved but prior to Exercise Titan Storm, after Initial Operating Capability had been declared. They’ve been sat on the information for over two months.
Ben Obese-Jecty MP@BenObeseJecty

Ajax is way down the list of current defence disasters, but the Government won’t answer this Named Day question on how many injuries Ajax caused between it achieving Initial Operating Capability criteria and Exercise Titan Storm which placed the programme on hold. It’s two months overdue. Not as late as the Defence Investment Plan but still. What are they so desperate to hide?

There is a deep irony in Khamenei's son inheriting his father. The beards came to power as a result of a revolution against Iran's hereditary monarchy only to turn into another hereditary monarchy, like North Korea. All the revolution did was replace one dynasty with another.

@DreyfusJames @Keir_Starmer @mtpennycook @LabourParty @BucksCouncil Sadly James this is happening across the UK. Villages do not have any ‘currency’ from Gov’t perspective. They couldn’t care less. Villages are the tissue that built this country and hold it together. Coordinate with other campaign groups. Fight. Fight. Fight.

Just heard at a village meeting that @Keir_Starmer @mtpennycook @LabourParty have threatened @BucksCouncil to turn our tiny village into a small town, or they will “take over & do it anyway”. Actual quote from a councillor. They want to put houses on the edge of the Village Green & at the entrance to the village… places of natural beauty, many wildlife habitats & beautiful views of open countryside. Yes. New homes DO have to be built. But WHY vandalise tiny villages which are struggling to cope already, by attempting to turn them into towns?? Why not build around places that already have infrastructure & amenities? Or build a new bloody town? We have 2, TWO, tiny shops, a chemist & a one-room library. NO other infrastructure exists. An already very busy road runs right through the village, which is already crumbling with potholes. A lot of elderly residents who’ve lived here for decades exactly BECAUSE of the relative peace & rurality will struggle to oppose these “proposals” because they are all online. Objections are limited to 100 words and are purposefully very difficult to find on council’s website. One could almost suggest they’re hidden. All objections have to be in by 16th March!! (We’re already organising a mass leafleting of the village, with detailed instructions of online use & giving help & information to those who need it.) In 12 DAYS! Bucks council have “just been informed.” Apparently, there are “no official planning applications”, & this is being done by the back door. Yet ANOTHER destructive, thoughtless, ill-conceived, spiteful, bulldozing of our rural way of life. Any response @mtpennycook ?? How can this POSSIBLY be legal??? And HOW does one fight something as vague, threatening & downright thuggish as this?? Yet ANOTHER attack on the countryside. I hope you all get a tractor’s pallet fork up your arses…

This is why nations accepting refugees and migrants are perfectly entitled to be particular about how many they take and, crucially, from where. Such things matter a lot; it is dishonest and dangerous to pretend otherwise.

Germany has 39,000 Japanese citizens; only two of them were suspected of violent crimes in 2023. By contrast, out of 25,000 Algerians, 1,729 were suspected of committing a violent crime in 2023.

I am a firm believer in freedom of religion, but I do think that if you've paid 50 quid to watch a top-level football match, you are probably entitled to feel a bit peeved when the game is stopped after just 13 minutes – completely outside of normal protocols – to accommodate the rituals of a minority religious belief system.
