@NickDixon This is policy across the company. Punished for intervening and also punished for losses from theft. Believe it or not some of the worst culprits are middle aged women drinkers, just bundle an armful of wine and walk out.

Anarcho-tyranny strikes again. Our pathetic culture always sides with the criminal, in this case someone who stole, then spat at the manager and abused the staff. This man must be reinstated, with compensation.

A Morrisons store manager says his life has been completely 'devastated' after he was sacked for confronting a repeated shoplifter.  Sean Egan - who had worked in the Aldridge Morrisons in the West Midlands for 29 years - was escorting the shoplifter out of the store when the thief turned aggressive.

@RadicalRoo @LPerrins Huge amount of pressure to get children placed with a new home too. My sister often has kids for 18 months or more, sometimes to help kids heal from real trauma, but often at older than 2 years old they are on the adoption scrapheap, with everyone wanting a shiny newborn.

@Liberdade80 @LPerrins I also know a carer who says the same things. They've often no real life experience of parenting or children in the home. Unfortunately SW is a high turn over profession due to stress so it's more likely to happen that they're out of their depth and straight out of uni.

It is very difficult to adopt a baby in UK. Preston had been a "perfectly healthy boy" before he was adopted by the defendants in April 2023. Four months later he was dead. This ‘healthy baby boy’ was placed with two men, who surely must have been a minority when compared to opposite sex couples hoping to adopt. Today, those men go on trial for the sexual assault of this poor child and one for murder. The court was told the baby was “ill-treated, sexually abused and physically assaulted.” The placement of this child by social workers will have been to fulfil ideological reasons and not in the interests of the Preston Davey who suffered 40 traumatic injuries over four months. From Southport to Nottingham every single state institution seems have been captured and turns away from basic commons sense to something much more sinister. bbc.com/news/articles/…

@reporterboy I look at Kruger and I look at Zia - it occurs that he might be better off with some marginalised Tories. That said, Zia is fun to watch if nothing else.

@WilliamClouston I just spent some of a small inheritance to buy some new shoes, on offer naturally. I remember my dad saying in the year before he died that he used to live in an unheated house as a child, now at 85 he was back doing the same in 2024.

This disaster is caused by the decades-long collapse in public investment - which has reduced productivity and stunted output. Capital budgets have been cannibalised by the binge on entitlement spending. The result? Stagnation…
Merryn Somerset Webb@MerrynSW

Here's something genuinely awful. Fewer than two in five young adults expect to have a better life than their parents. Collapse in any expectation of improving living standards. Politicians, yes, you with your relentless overtaxing and spending, this is your responsibility.

@rorybroomfield Once my dad tipped past 80 I had to increasingly step in to keep him on track with things like car insurance, MOTs etc. Given that the car insurer identifies the car via the reg number, they really should have also confirmed the make & model, finding the error in the process.

🚨EXCLUSIVE🚨 Britain’s new fleet of tanks will outgun and “overmatch” anything Vladimir Putin can deploy on the battlefield, defence officials believe. The Telegraph has been given exclusive access to the factory in Telford, Shropshire, where engineers are busy building the Army’s new Challenger 3 - with our columnist, @HamishDBG, a former tank commander, also getting hands-on experience with Challenger 3 (see his video and comment piece). Developers say Challenger 3’s advanced defences will be able to cope with drone attacks, which have taken out tanks on the battlefields of Ukraine, while its new modular armour will be able to take more punishment than any previous UK main battle tank. They say its armament of new weapons, including the new L55A1 120mm smoothbore gun, will be able to defeat any tank it comes up against. The weapon, an upgrade from the previous Challenger 2’s rifled 120mm, will give the UK’s tanks more explosive power than ever before, allowing the Army to use advanced Nato munitions which were previously unavailable to them. The British vehicle is seen as the latest to rival Russia’s new “super tank”, the T-14 Armata, which has been in development for years after a series of embarrassing setbacks. @Simmons__ I was talking to a lady in her 50's and in the last year both her kids, one with family in tow, have moved back in with them after losing their jobs, one their home too and the parents are carrying all of them financially.

Don't get excited about falling unemployment. It's driven by a sudden surge in economic inactivity as young people (mostly students) give up looking for work.

@rorybroomfield @Morrisons @waitrose Interestingly I was in Tesco earlier and fully uniformed security not only challenged a man at the exit, politely, but did indeed retrieve goods stuffed in his jacket. Can conform Morrisons forbid staff from intervening, but also criticise them losses from theft. It's mad.

@Liberdade80 @fesshole Exactly. Take emotions out of it and things are much easier. If I could run the justice department I dare say we’d be able to knock down some jails. And rope manufacturing would provide jobs.

Communism failed because of bad incentive structures - democracy is failing for a similar reason. Why would you get into politics? And if you did - would you find other talented people there? The whole field is reserved for those with low talent and high self interest.
