NIGERIA POLICE FORCE MOURNS FALLEN OFFICER, ASSURES FULL INVESTIGATION INTO FATAL ROAD TRAFFIC INCIDENT IN IMO STATE The leadership of the Nigeria Police Force mourns the tragic death of Inspector Habila Mangai, who lost his life in a fatal road traffic accident while on lawful stop-and-search duty along the Owerri–Okigwe Road in Imo State on 18th April, 2026. The late Inspector, who was attached to the Isiala Mbano Division, was performing his duty at Amaraku when he was knocked down by a Mack truck driven by one Chisom Ajah. He was immediately evacuated to the Federal Medical Centre, Owerri, where he was confirmed dead by the attending medical personnel. His remains have since been deposited at the hospital mortuary. The driver of the vehicle and the truck have been taken into custody and handed over to the State Motor Traffic Department (SMTD), Owerri, for detailed investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident. The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, psc(+), NPM, commiserates with the family, colleagues, and the Imo State Police Command over the painful loss, and assures that the sacrifice of the deceased will not be in vain. The Nigeria Police Force assures the public that a thorough investigation has been instituted to establish the full circumstances surrounding the incident, and that justice will be duly served in accordance with the law. The Force also urges motorists to exercise caution, obey traffic regulations, and maintain due care, particularly around police operational checkpoints and duty posts.
