Oakland County’s Orwellian Overreach: The Oakland County Board of Commissioners just rammed through a controversial new drone surveillance program for law enforcement, steamrolling residents who warned that this is the infrastructure of mass surveillance. It’s an appalling invasion of our privacy and civil liberties - the exact opposite of genuine public safety. Turning the skies over our neighborhoods into a government watch list is not the answer. It’s a dangerous step toward big government control that erodes the 4th Amendment and treats law abiding citizens like suspects instead of free Americans. We don’t live in Orwell’s 1984. I stand with my neighbors in Oakland County as we don’t need our government’s eyes in the sky. What we need are leaders who prioritize the rule of law to protect hardworking families without turning Michigan into a surveillance state. Let’s keep pushing to make Michigan safe, normal, and red again! 🇺🇸 @MIGOP @MI_Republicans @stevegrubershow @MrJustinBarclay @DaveBondyTV @Th_Midwesterner @MINewsSource @RapidResponse47 @bennyjohnson @seanhannity @realDonaldTrump @JDVance @timlovesann @DonnieDetroit19 @WallStreetApes

Michigan residents will now be under drone surveillance Oakland County Board of Commissioners voted to APPROVE a very controversial new drone program for law enforcement Residents speak out “We don't want to be watched — the infrastructure of mass surveillance. The very idea is an appalling invasion of our privacy and our civil liberties, and it is the exact opposite of public safety”

Oakland County, Michigan just approved a new police drone program aimed at improving emergency response, but some residents are raising questions about how it will be used.

@jonaharagon The whole point of the EFF is to protect all forms of online nonsense. Locking comments and leaving, is the exact opposite of why I donated to EFF for 20 years.

I fear the EFF’s problem is that X’s algorithm was *too accurately* showing their social media manager a ton of stupid botted political nonsense because it knows that’s what elicits an emotional response *from them,* but it eventually made them write off X as a lost cause as a result. What X shows *me* is basically a bunch of people watching The Pitt and people interested in tech news. That’s how *I* know real live people still use this app for whatever reason. The X algorithm knowing too much about exactly what triggers people is a whole ‘nother privacy nightmare, but it’s probably important to remember that people still exist outside of whatever dumb silo you find yourself in.
Privacy Guides@privacy_guides

We love the Electronic Frontier Foundation, they’re fighting the good fight 💪 But, we’re not leaving X like them. And the reason is simple: We think all the reasons the EFF shared about staying on Facebook, Instagram, and TikTok still apply here too!

@RepMattHall Shouldn’t the 2023 net zero mandates be repealed first, hard for them to cut $1 billion and do mandated net zero which Mackinac center predicted will still double prices

Since 2023, the Whitmer-appointed Michigan Public Service Commission has rubber-stamped over $1 BILLION in rate hikes on hardworking families, seniors on fixed incomes, and small businesses just trying to keep the lights on. These skyrocketing costs are a direct result of the reckless Democrat wind and solar mandates rammed through in 2023. Instead of prioritizing affordability and reliability, they chose far-left energy policies and now you’re footing the bill. That’s unacceptable. Michigan ratepayers deserve better. You deserve a refund for these unjustified increases. That’s why I’m leading the fight to put that money back in your pocket. We’re going to force the utility companies to cut their rates by $1 billion and then freeze rates for at least two years. No more excuses. No more handouts for unreliable energy schemes. Enough is enough. It’s time to put Michigan families first.

@ABC The government taxes you and the employer for 44 years, returns some of the money they “invested” for you, and then for good measure, taxes it again when they give it back. If you die, they keep the difference. This program is also considered a pretty good government program.

This California jury’s ruling against Meta and Google is honestly wild. If social media platforms can be held liable for “causing harm” via “addiction,” what *won’t* fit that standard? I think parents should limit screen time, especially for very young kids, but come on, people.

Say hello to Michigan House Bill 4429 and Senate Bill 284. This is Michigan’s “Digital Age Assurances Act”. And it would require ALL Operating Systems (including Linux & Windows) to implement “commercially reasonable” age verification of every user on every system. This Operating System Age Verification bill stalled out last year, but has been taken back up and re-sent to a Michigan House committee last week. It’s worth noting that this bill was introduced in the House of Representatives by a group of Democrats, but was introduced in the Senate by a group of Republicans. Which suggests that, should the bill make it out of committee and go for a vote, it would likely pass with support from both parties. legislature.mi.gov/Bills/Bill?Obj…

I think if the state funded more than 10% of their budget they would have more. The State covered 50% in the 80s, currently cut down to 10%. Realistically they would be better off going private and forgoing state tax dollars and Michigan residents, but I am glad they have stayed public and a world class university

The University of Michigan says it exists to ‘serve the people of Michigan.’ That’s rich when nearly half your students are international or out-of-state. Time to fix it. Take Michigan tax dollars? Then 80% of your seats go to Michigan students. It’s time to put Michigan students first. Period. Who’s with me? Thank you, @Schostak4Regent for the information! You’ll make an incredible regent.

@dananessel if Michigan mandated DTE to supply Energy that business needs to come here, this would be a cause to celebrate. DTE is a Michigan government managed monopoly.

Google wants to build a new data center in Michigan. They’re promising to kick in $10 million, and 2.7 GW of “new” electric power to offset any utility issues or rate increases. However, a bulk of that electricity is predicted to come from “solar power, advanced storage technologies and demand flexibility.” I’m not convinced these sources alone will be able to reliably deliver the required power WITHOUT impacting local residents.

The Michigan Supreme Court is hearing arguments today in an appeal of an MPSC approval given to Enbridge to relocate Line 5 into a yet-to-be-built tunnel beneath the Straits of Mackinac. It's the most crowded state high court hearing I've seen in a while.
