Unreal… The killer was “having a bad day”. 8 years for killing an innocent grandfather. 5 years then released for “good behavior”. 3 years probation. He will hurt someone again. Judges must be held accountable or it wont stop. The system is broken.

I’m saddened to learn that a New Yorker in city custody died early this morning. He was transferred from Rikers Island to Elmhurst Hospital yesterday evening, where he was receiving medical attention. My thoughts are with his family and loved ones as they endure this profound loss. Every person in our city’s care deserves dignity, safety, and access to quality medical treatment—without exception. Transparency is essential and the Department of Correction and oversight partners have begun an investigation into the circumstances of his death.

F✡️CK your intifada Mahmoud Khalil. I confronted this Jihadist as he exited a New York City Council @NYCCouncil sponsored event last Thursday, titled “Islamophobia in New York City: A Policy Perspective.” This confrontation comes on the same day Council leadership pushed a vote on buffer zones around houses of worship measures aimed at protecting synagogues that have faced a disturbing surge in antisemitic incidents and attacks over the past 2.5 years. Mahmoud Khalil has publicly expressed support for Hamas and the events of October 7, and continues to call for “intifada” in New York City and across the United States. Despite being under legal scrutiny and facing possible deportation, he is being platformed and defended by elected officials. I made it clear: I support his deportation and reject the normalization of extremist rhetoric in our city. During the confrontation, Councilwoman @CMAlexaAviles Alexa Avilés aggressively intervened yelling in my face and accusing me of supporting genocide, while I repeatedly stated that I stand for peace and oppose violence, extremism, and calls for intifada. As tensions escalated, members of Khalil’s entourage physically blocked, pushed, and body-checked me in an attempt to prevent any meaningful exchange or accountability. At no point did I threaten anyone yet I was met with hostility, intimidation, and physical interference. This moment raises serious questions about leadership, accountability, and the direction of public discourse in New York City. @InnaVernikov @VickieforNYC @RitchieTorres @RepStefanik @NassauExec @DHSgov @TheJusticeDept @SpeakerMenin @EricDinowitzNYC @realDonaldTrump @SecRubio @AGPamBondi @EliseStefanik

I've been holding back on this, but I'm just gonna let loose... So many of these "protestors" here in Asheville NC have had their lives DRAMATICALLY improved by President Trump. Trump's FEMA resolved 80% of ALL open Hurricane Helene cases Biden left sitting 116 days... in 5 DAYS. Trump's DOT gave nearly $2 BILLION to fix roads and bridges in WNC, which is the largest Emergency Relief allocation in federal highway history. Trump's DOT reopened I-40 in 5 months. Everyone said it would take years. Trump's HUD approved $1.4 billion for Helene housing recovery so fast that even Democrat Governor Josh Stein publicly thanked him for it. Trump's USDA delivered $221 million directly to WNC farmers who lost everything. Trump gave NC 6 full months of 100% federal cost coverage — one of the longest in FEMA history. The same people driving on rebuilt roads, drinking clean water, living the comeback... are out here protesting the man who made most of it happen. JUST GIVE CREDIT WHERE CREDIT IS DUE!!! It's not that hard. He knew you hated him before the storm. He knew that when he landed in Asheville. And guess what? HE SHOWED UP AND HELPED YOU ANYWAYS!!!!!! And today you grabbed your little sign and costumes, got in your little Subaru, you drove on those rebuilt roads, over those rebuilt bridges, passed rebuilt houses and rebuilt parks, to protest a man who helped your city. You look stupid, out of touch, and insanely ungrateful.

I’m pissed! Trump gave Iran a pause on strikes against their energy infrastructure until April 6. So what did Israel do?

They bombed all three of Iran’s largest steel plants simultaneously, which are crucial to their economy And if that wasn’t enough, they also struck Iran’s Khondab heavy-water reactor facility as well as uranium production and uranium-conversion sites All on the same day Why did Israel do this? And was it in coordination with the U.S.? If it’s in coordination, it means Trump lied to Iran. If not, than Israel is lying. If you take into account the report today that JD Vance yelled at Netanyahu over the phone this week, upset at being dragged into the war by misleading intelligence, then I think you have your answer Israel seems to be trying to sabotage these negotiations, and it serves their interests to do so.
Mario Nawfal@MarioNawfal

UPDATE: I’m really struggling to call what happens next On one hand, Trump needs an off-ramp to limit the global economic damage and growing domestic political pressure Iran would also like this war to end before more cities are leveled and more leaders are killed On the other hand, Iran is doing surprisingly well controlling the Strait, striking the Gulf and Israel, and selling oil for more than twice the price than before the war, making a killing And on the American side, troops are heading to the region for what increasingly looks like a ground operation to control Hormuz Negotiations are the most promising development since February 28th. But Iran's warnings to Gulf nations against supporting any ground operation, combined with maximalist demands from both sides, make a deal unlikely in the short term

Food for thought. On November 29, 1971, the world barely noticed when Iranian forces seized three specks of land at the mouth of the Strait of Hormuz: Abu Musa, Greater Tunb, and Lesser Tunb. For the UAE and many in the Gulf, this was never a technical border quarrel. It was an act of occupation and a permanent scar. Today, a comfortable consensus has formed in foreign-policy salons and on Wall Street that the Trump administration has no strategic vision for the Strait of Hormuz, and that Iran is “winning” the confrontation in the Gulf by default. Nothing could be further from the truth. It is hard to believe how casually many of these critics ignore history, including the way control of financing, insurance, and maritime chokepoints has repeatedly reshaped great-power influence. Half a century after the shah’s grab, the question surrounding these islands is no longer simply “who owns them,” but “who secures the most critical chokepoint in the global oil trade.” With President Trump moving to provide American-backed insurance for ships transiting the Gulf, Washington is displacing the remnants of British dominance in maritime insurance and risk. Whoever insures the traffic does not just collect premiums; they hold a de facto veto over it and gain visibility into every meaningful cargo, what moves, in what volume, from where and to where. This emerging architecture gives the United States something London once enjoyed: an indirect presence in every Gulf port that depends on uninterrupted access to global insurance and reinsurance. The logical next step is geographic as well as financial. Returning Abu Musa, Greater Tunb, and Lesser Tunb to the United Arab Emirates would not only correct a historical wrong against Arab inhabitants whose ties to these islands long predate the shah’s gunboat diplomacy. It would also provide the legal and political foundation for a formal U.S.–UAE security arrangement on the islands themselves. Critics will bristle at the idea of a sustained American military presence on these rocks. But the alternative is not some neutral, demilitarized utopia. The alternative is that the Strait of Hormuz, through which a large share of the world’s seaborne oil flows, remains vulnerable to coercion, sabotage, and blockade. A long-term U.S. presence, at Emirati invitation, would anchor a security order built around free navigation, reliable energy flows, and clear red lines against maritime blackmail. This is not just about three islands. It is about restoring the principle that territory cannot be seized by surprise and held indefinitely by force, and about extending a coherent maritime strategy from Hormuz to the Bab el-Mandeb. If the United States is serious about securing the arteries of global trade for decades to come, then correcting the injustice of 1971 and placing these islands under Emirati sovereignty, with an American flag flying alongside the UAE’s in a carefully structured basing agreement, is not an overreach. IMHO, It is the minimum credible foundation for a stable Gulf and the clearest rebuttal yet to those who insist that America has no plan.
