Interesting how mental competency has replaced the actual crime as the central consideration for punishment. If you stab a random stranger to death for no reason you’re obviously not right mentally but does it matter? If you were right there, gun in hand, as the crime unfolded would you pause to consider the emotional state of the criminal or would you simply shoot him? Who cares what the mental state of the criminal is? So he had a bad childhood or didn’t get his special treat or whatever. None of that means anything. What matters is what he did…not why he did it. An innocent person is dead. That’s ALL that matters. Put this guy in the ground.
