@jacobmparis I feel like you need to draw the line on this at some point. I often lose my place in the JSX if an inline click handler is more than 4 or 5 lines of code. You can usually infer what handleClick will do based on the element it's attached to.

🚩 functions like <button onClick={handleClick} - handleClick doesn't explain what it does - you lose colocation - need new names for each callback Inline callbacks can call multiple functions with good names onClick={() => { analytics.event('this-button') openModal()

Red flags in a React codebase 🚩 functions named handleClick,handleSubmit 🚩 preventDefault 🚩 useMemo 🚩 fetch inside useEffect 🚩 <div onClick/> 🚩 a "hooks" directory 🚩 css files 🚩 icon library in package.json

@outoilkka @housecor Yeah, Ramda is great if you want to forget what your code is doing 6 months after writing it.

I try not to, but accessing nested properties is something I usually use Lodash (fp) for. Not sure if it is the best option. I have horrible nightmares of Ramda. I'm sure it is a solid library but long ago I was thrown in the deep end of a largish React codebase that was 80% Ramda. At the time I was quite new to a lot of the concepts it implements. We did eventually refactor it away with native utilities where possible.

Poll: Do you typically use a utility library in your web app's frontend code? There are many JS utility libraries out there: Lodash Underscore Ramda Remeda But JS has gotten quite good in recent years. So do you typically use a utility library in your web app's frontend code?

Ignore the hardcore book fans online who claim the showrunners have "massacred" the 1950s sacred text 😂 It's really good - well paced, fun world building, the main character in the books is a maths equation, so they've done a great job adapting it. (from a hardcore book fan AND maths nerd)

@themarkdrake @armandrego @ThePrimeagen @rustlang I didn't have a specific use case in mind. I just want to expand my horizons. I learned Go a while back and really enjoyed the experience. I imagine I'll find some good uses for a lang like Zig once I start messing around with it.

@joelhooks @mjackson +1000 for Tom Bihn. I have one that's over 5 years old and still looks brand new. The price is higher, but you get what you pay for.

@swlkr @likewhoaxyz @stephsmithio Right!? I'm enthusiastic about assessing the pros and cons of an approach and tempering expectations so I don't waste money or time. I guess that comes off as being jaded?

Overheard several recent conversations where folks are not sure whether to hire a college student or someone with 10 years of experience, bc they're genuinely unsure of who will bring more value

@brian_d_vaughn Ditto. Considering it also tends to get used everywhere for event handlers. Just use "err" and "evt"/"event" people.
