Commodore announces a digital detox phone and the comments seem very negative. I thought only the #MSX scene was that grumpy! 😅 I love the idea of a less-online focused device. It looks on-brand and fittingly nostalgic for Commodore. The pricing may limit its appeal, though.

@bitsofbas Yeah $700Cnd is a bit steep. I bet if it was in the $300 range people would be more interested. I picked up this tiny phone for $300 a few years back. Its an full functioning smart phone but since its so tiny you can't really doom scroll or watch video on it.

@bitsofbas To be honest I struggle to see how this project is even viable. They’ve not long had the C64 remake out and then they’ve thrown what I considered a vanity project in to the mix. It just seems a crazy prospect.

@bitsofbas Honestly can you blame them? They hyped up some big reveal and everyone wants a FPGA Amiga. Instead they release... this thing... and want iPhone prices for it.

@bitsofbas Va a ser que no. Acabo de ver el precio de un movil que el valor real de mercado son 30,40 euros. No entiendo la verdad. Tal vez lleve oro por dentro.

The primary issue is too much of life is now geared towards carrying a phone around that can run endless apps for such mundane tasks as paying for car parking or authorising payments. If a device can't run banking, parking, ev charging, 2fa or event ticket apps then you're doomed to carrying two around, which nobody will.

@bitsofbas @klaxmsx Pues no me he fijado pero como usuario de Commodore que soy también me parece una gran idea y tal vez lo compre.

@bitsofbas I love the idea of them doing something with what they've released, rather than wandering off into a whole new market they have no business being in. They should be making sure that great new C64 games get made frequently.

@bitsofbas "The pricing may limit its appeal, though" - that's the whole issue. For 99$, this thing could look appealing, but for 500$!? I mean, it's cheap plastic, the screen would've been considered underwhelming 15 years ago, and the Helios G81 chip is the lowest low-end avaible.

@bitsofbas its about 400 dollarydoos for a flip phone and all the marketing sounds wishy washy hippy as fuck. Digital Detox Designed for mindfulness Thoughtful friction and worse of all, it doesn't even *mention* whether or not it will be able to play C64 or Amiga games via emulation.
