Please take a look at this extraordinary and powerful video of how a woman riding her bike was almost killed and her life permanently altered by the failure of NYC leaders to properly roll out the legalization of electric vehicles on our streets . This is not how regulation is done. These vehicles were legalized without any normal and reasonable safeguards in place because of intense lobbying from the billion dollar delivery app industry. As I have posted before, the lobbyists even brag about it! To make matters worse, NYPD’s enforcement mechanisms were caught unprepared by the onslaught of these bikes, and this victim was prevented from even reporting this near fatal accident with an e-scooter going the wrong way at 30 miles per hour. The victim was deprived of a legal remedy and the driver faced no accountability. This accident occurred in @galeabrewer @GaleBrewerNYC District where I live. An avoidable near tragedy. Meanwhile we New Yorkers are suffering from the gross incompetence, greed and self interest of legislators who were elected to serve us and protect us and yet legalized these e-vehicles without guardrails. And at the same time groups like Transportation Alternatives and their related organizations serve as a powerful front for the delivery apps who benefit financially from the proliferation of these e-vehicles, fighting tooth and nail against meaningful regulation like licensing, registration, inspection and insurance mandates. They have @ydanis @NYC_DOT under their thumb along with many other elected leaders who want those big tech donations. We really can’t abide by this gross negligence on the part of people we entrusted with keeping us safe any longer. We have the right to safe streets. We call on @NYCMayor @NYCMayorsOffice to do the right thing. We need a department of transportation that is not bought and bossed by special interests. Regulate these vehicles once and for all. Let’s go. Enough is enough. Get these killer vehicles properly regulated. And to NY voters : register to vote and commit to vote in the upcoming June primary because primary voters are the only voice these electeds listen to in our one party city.
