So you think gravity storage is a thing? Burning 1 kg of hydrogen releases 142 MJ. Lowering 1kg could also release 141MJ, but it would have to be from a height of 13km! I'm not saying hydrogen is the best large-scale storage medium, but gravitational storage is surely the worst.
