@Profshaukat, Kenya's Principal Secretary for Science, Research, and Innovation, cites two main challenges that hamper development of successful research and innovation in the country: ✍🏻 Inadequate, often unreliable, financing. This is in spite of governments across the continent committing to dedicate a budgetary allocation to research each year. ✍🏻 Fragmentation in research (scientists working in silos, a lack of collaboration and synergy that leads to a divided front). The newly developed Kenya’s Research Financing and Capacity Strengthening Master Plan appreciates these challenges and draws out a plan to overcome them. #STEM #Research @nrfkenya @KENIAupdates @nacosti @mkarembu

The Kenya 🇰🇪 Government extending helping hand to different communities around the country affected by shortage of food due to #drought. A very satisfying moment when I distributed food stuff to Vidziani communities near #Mariakani. Today attending Principal Secretaries monthly meeting chaired by Hon. @koske_felix - HOPS. We were able to take stock on achievements and undertakings since the last meeting. I had an opportunity to make a presentation on matters related to Science, Research, Technology and Innovation. Very constructive discussion with all colleagues on how we should reorganize and reorientate innovation and research ecosystem for greater impact - breaking silos and building clusters and synergies, Innovation 2 Commecilization, enhance funding to 2% of GDP, linking industry with Academy, linking STI with all pillars of #BETA plan. We are on trajectory to - Singapore way @nacosti @nrfkenya @KENIAupdates @sri_kenya @OfficePCS_KE

Honoured to join CS @kipmurkomen during the AI Hackathon awards ceremony @niru_kenya. Congratulations to all winners. Today was clear indication that we are thinking outside the box- looking at innovative ways addressing societal issues including - safety and security for socioeconomic impact. What is remaining now is to upscale innovation towards commercialization through adequate funding. @nacosti @nrfkenya @KENIAupdates We must continue to use home grown innovation to address challenges of our society. Our youth 🇰🇪 have talents and are co-pilots on the trajectory to Singapore Way under HE President Dr @WilliamsRuto. Held constructive discussion with CEO @MSuzman during the margins of @gatesfoundation Partners Convening Meeting, Nairobi 🇰🇪 focused on Foundation support in Kenya and beyond and how the Government is providing enabling environment for further support in including Healthcare, food security, AI etc. Also gave my reflection how we are supporting innovations during session - “showcase of select locally led innovations across sectors and how they are driving impact and scale, followed by a facilitated discussion on how government views and supports innovation” @nacosti @nrfkenya @KENIAupdates @sri_kenya @OfficePCS_KE @MusaliaMudavadi @SingoeiAKorir @ISC

It is a great honour to deliver a Keynote address during 4th @EAC Regional Science Technology and Innovation (STI) conference, opened by Minister of ICT and Innovation @MusoniPaula 🇷🇼 @easteco1 on Artificial Intelligence (AI) and its role in strengthening the STI ecosystem. Using AI we must move from technology consumers to technology producer; from low-skill economies to knowledge innovative lead economies; from fragmented systems to integrated regional ecosystems @jumuiya AI is a force multiplier - It accelerates research and discovery, enhances innovation and commercialization, improves policy and decision-making, strengthens national competitiveness. “If AI is the engine — human capital is the fuel” - We must build and sharpen our manpower skills, create our data and run the agenda and produce more thinkers. “The future will belong to those who combine human intelligence with AI to transform their societies.” The ecosystem must be adequately funded with atleast 1% of GDP @WilliamsRuto @MusaliaMudavadi @_AfricanUnion @nacosti @nrfkenya @KENIAupdates @sri_kenya @ScienceRI_Kenya @niru_kenya @GIZAfricanUnion @AECID_es @SciforAfrica @DFID_UK @NEPAD_Agency #AI4EAC @UNESCO

The 19th Ambassadors’ Conference open doors yesterday with forward looking message from the President - we must believe is possible and believe in ourselves on a trajectory to first world class status. Building on H.E Dr. @WilliamsRuto, “Innovation, technology and enterprise are the drivers of Kenya’s transformation.” Privileged today to continue on that thread - That message must now guide not only our domestic policy, but also our diplomacy. We are living through a defining geopolitical moment—one where Science, Technology & Innovation (STI) is no longer peripheral, but central to national power and global influence. The architecture of power is shifting. Influence today is increasingly determined by who develops technology, who controls data, and who converts knowledge into economic and strategic advantage. AI, biotech, digital infrastr, and space technologies are reshaping how nations compete and collaborate. For 🇰🇪 , the question is not whether we participate—but whether we do so deliberately, strategically, and at scale. #STI must now anchor both our domestic transformation agenda and our foreign policy engagements. While 🇰🇪 has built strong foundations, we are not yet converting research into industries, enterprises, and jobs at the scale required. This is the gap we must urgently close. We must shift from research for knowledge to research for impact. This means strengthening technology transfer, scaling innovation financing, deepening industry–academia collaboration, and supporting startups to grow into globally competitive enterprises and @ScienceRI_Kenya @sri_kenya is doing exactly that. Our diplomatic missions must also evolve. The embassy of the future is not just a center of representation—it is a platform for innovation. We must actively mobilize our diaspora, secure strategic partnerships, attract technology investments, and connect Kenya to global knowledge ecosystems @SingoeiAKorir @pthigo Public-private partnerships will be critical. Government provides direction, academia provides knowledge, and the private sector brings capital and scale. When aligned, these forces can unlock transformative growth. At the heart of this transformation is human capital. We must invest in skills for the future, while strengthening technical and vocational training to support industry needs. The #BETA provides a clear framework. But it is #STI that will drive impact across agriculture, MSMEs, healthcare, housing, and the digital economy. Without STI, progress will be incremental. With it, progress can be exponential. Kenya has the vision, talent, partnerships. What we must now do is align these strengths, act with urgency, and execute with discipline under leadership of @WilliamsRuto @MusaliaMudavadi The future will not belong to the largest nations—but to the most innovative. @Diaspora_KE @ScienceRI_Kenya @nacosti @nrfkenya @KENIAUpdates @ForeignOfficeKE @SpaceAgencyKE @ICTAuthorityKE #Sciencediplomacy
