I wrote and deleted this message so many times, because I did not know how to put this pain into words. But I am writing now with hope that you might read it, and that you might hear the voice of students like me. I know you have spoken about Iran, cared about what is happening to our people, and tried to stand by Iranians in difficult times. Today, I am asking you from the bottom of my heart: please do not forget Iranian students in America. So many of us came here carrying years of sacrifice, fear, and hope. We left our homes, our families, and everything familiar behind, and endured countless hardships just for a chance to build a future. Many of us spent months, even more than a year, trapped in administrative processing, living in uncertainty, spending all we had, working endlessly, traveling to embassies, and holding on to nothing but hope. We went through all of that just to take one small step toward our dreams. I was one of those students. I spent more than a year in clearance, in a dark place full of stress, helplessness, and fear that my future might disappear before it even began. When it was finally over and I arrived in the United States, it felt like I had survived something impossible. It felt like I had finally reached the land of opportunity, the place where hard work and dreams could still mean something. But now, once again, we are living with fear and uncertainty. We are not our government. We are not politics. We are not terrorism. We are students. We are researchers. We are young people who came here with honest dreams, with love for learning, and with the hope of building a life through hard work and dignity. And yet now, many of us feel invisible and abandoned. We cannot find jobs. We cannot get OPT. Our immigration and status-related processes are being put on hold. We live every day with anxiety, wondering whether everything we fought for, everything we sacrificed for, will be taken away from us. This is what hurts the most: after surviving so much to get here, we are once again being pushed into hopelessness. I am asking you sincerely, as a successful Iranian woman whose voice carries weight and whose support has meant so much to so many people: please stand with us again. Please speak about us. Please do not let our pain go unseen. Please help people understand that we should not be punished for a government we did not choose and for politics we have no control over. We are human beings. We are dreamers. We are students who only wanted a chance. Please do not leave us alone. Thank you for reading this.

Iranian students came here with dreams—legally. Now they are stuck: No job (OPT delay) No future (green card pause) #USCISPause #ImmigrantVoices @WhiteHouse @USCIS #LiftTheHold
Homeland Security@DHSgov

On April 3, 2026, @ICEgov officers in Los Angeles arrested Hamideh Soleimani Afshar and Sarinasadat Hosseiny, the niece and grandniece of Qasem Soleimani, the late head of the Quds Force of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps who was killed by a drone strike ordered by President Trump in 2020.    Soleimani Afshar entered the United States in June 2015 on a tourist visa. In 2019, a judge granted her asylum. In 2021, she became a green card holder under the Biden Administration. In July 2025, she filed a naturalization application where she disclosed, she traveled to Iran at least four times since being issued a green card. Her trips to Iran illustrate her asylum claims were fraudulent.   Her daughter, Sarinasadat Hosseiny, entered the United States in July 2015 on a student visa. In 2019, a judge granted her asylum. In 2023, she became a green card holder under the Biden administration. It is a privilege to be granted green card to live in the United States of America. If we have reason to believe a green card holder poses a threat to the U.S., the green card will be revoked.

@TransiTorri @krassenstein As an Iranian sociologist studying democratic movements, I find this deeply concerning. The USCIS holds on Iranian scholars exacerbate our fears of returning to an oppressive regime. Open communication is vital for truth and progress. @SenMullin @CNN #LiftTheHold #USCISPause

My guess is that Trump chickens out this evening and extends the deadline, claiming that the discussions have been positive, even though nothing has changed. I hope this is the case

US-IRAN TALKS: “POSITIVE” SIGNALS EMERGE: FOX A senior U.S. official says Washington is in direct contact with Iran, describing the talks as “positive” and suggesting a possible breakthrough could come as soon as today. The comments signal cautious optimism, though major gaps remain in broader negotiations.

@Kamran_Yousaf Sit quietly, Kamran. There is no deal available on the table . There isn't a single meeting point . Temporary ceasefire is a death warrant for Iran, to which they'll never agree . For U.S. allowing any kind of financial or political benefit to Iran will be considered a defeat .

Pakistan’s back-to-back statements condemning Iran’s attacks on Saudi Arabia appear to be a last-ditch effort to salvage any remaining space for a deal. The messaging seems carefully calibrated: a signal to Tehran that if ongoing diplomatic efforts collapse, it risks losing Islamabad’s support, something that could further tilt the regional balance against Iran.

Very important: "The USCIS pause on immigration processing for Iran is about to expel thousands of students who are graduating from college in May. These are F-1 students, who will not be able to roll to OPT, STEM OPT, or eventually H1-B in time unless this pause is lifted. These are young people who want to contribute to America; who are in school at places like Berkeley, Santa Clara University, and Stanford. Without lifting the pause, they will have to return to Iran in 60 days. We want these young, brilliant people staying and working in America, paying taxes in America and creating jobs here."
Agarwal for Congress@ethanagarwal

.@realDonaldTrump - a request from the Iranian citizens of CA-17: The USCIS pause on immigration processing for Iran is about to expel thousands of students who are graduating from college in May. We want these young, brilliant people staying and working in America, paying taxes in America and creating jobs here. While USCIS figures out the broader timing and implications of lifting the pause against affected immigrants, we request that the pause for students graduating in 2026 specifically be lifted. I'm happy to engage with whoever from your administration is best for this. Thank you.

That's what I'd do. Immediately halt all ops. Not announced it. Just stop. No more discussions about. Brush off questions. Silence. I wouldn't answer the Irania n calls. Nothing. Silence. Days... Maybe weeks. Watch. Wait... This will create enormous targets of opportunity.

The deadline for the ultimatum has expired. The path for dialogue has been closed. Donald Trump has issued a threat, declaring that tonight will be a night of reckoning for Iran. He has stated that he will obliterate the entirety of Iran's civilization. Iran has suspended all transportation services, including train operations. The Indian Embassy has issued an advisory urging everyone currently in Iran to remain exactly where they are for the next 48 hours and to refrain from any travel. Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has tweeted that the Iranian people stand ready to fight and make sacrifices for their nation. Throughout the entire conflict, Iran has neither bowed down nor broken; from the very beginning, it has fought with limited resources. It will fight today as well. The issue at hand is not one of victory or defeat, but of principles and spirit.
