In Namche Bazar in Nepal (I was crook and it wasn’t that expensive, only a couple of things)

Why does anybody not on expenses account use the hotel laundry? Wash your own clothes or find a local laundromat, it's cheaper and more fun.

I mean the kind of finding where everyone in the room immediately realizes patient care just changed forever. What would that be?

About ten years ago, my Aunt and Uncle died in a car accident. My cousin almost died in it too.
Every “simultaneous death” provision I see reminds me of them.
Don’t overlook this clause in your estate plan. You just never know.

@GunnerTas I grew up in a town in NSW ~8000 with multiple named areas that would probably qualify as "suburbs". Although if you addressed mail to just *town name* it would be appropriately delivered.
Having said that the last is true of my current city (population >50K).

What's the smallest city/town in Australia you can realistically say has suburbs? In Tasmania it's probably Ulverstone (~12000 people). Curious what examples there may be elsewhere.

(a) isolate as best as able (iso suite c negative pressurideal; isolated corner of carpark if needed)
(b) call the High Consequences Infectious Diseases unit for help
(c) provide appropriate care in consultation with (b)

Right peeps, is there an actual plan for if we see someone who meets the Ebola risk factors and is symptomatic.
Last time it was “lock them in the loo until help comes”
Do we have anything more sophisticated than that? And who do we call for help?

I worked as a pharmacy assistant when I was in high school.
Had a presentation that was the parent of someone I knew with a wierd story about that someone.
With my pharmacist decided on a treat-and-refer pathway.
By that night they were in the teaching hospital with badness.

We lost a colleague last year who presented with a persistent sore throat not amenable to antibiotics. The ENT surgeon was worried and referred her to us for FNAC. We didn’t see any definite mass, and the oropharynx was out of our comfort zone. We aspirated a lymph node we discovered…that’s where we knew there was trouble. Summary: High-grade B-cell lymphoma. Medical practice can be treacherous even to the wary…

Before rushing out to buy vitamin D supplements, please be aware that this pharmacist is offering poor advice. He is not medically qualified to do so. There are several other ways to increase vitamin D levels, and blindly taking supplements can actually be harmful !!

@DrNikhilMD Putting in a response from an area with very low TB rates: here most likely MRSA or NTM (most prevalent around me is pulmonary M avian complex).
Last time I saw it in a fluid bag was mycobacterial PD peritonitis, can’t remember the species.

But we’re always warned if we (I’m a pharmacist) don’t mention it (and/or attach the appropriate warning label), we might bear medicolegal responsibility for the outcome.

😶😯This one's a little crazy! Yesterday's QF21 from Melbourne to Dallas diverted to Tahiti due to a disruptive passenger. Get this, ACARS message indicates that a crew member was "bitten" by the passenger! Also, thanks for the heads up😉

@JohnDaw72654738 @analyticflying @MikeGStein My understanding of most Australian law (as a person responsible for educating patients about prescription meds) is that if you took it intentionally it’s not a legal excuse. You’re responsible for the outcome. only exception might be if prescribed for you & you weren’t educated.

The Australian version says “do not drive or operate heavy machinery”. And working in a rural area, they’re clearly talking about tractors, post-hole diggers, combines, and yes, forklifts. Plus anything else that might need to be operated.

Here it’s either a lung abscess 2° to (typically) Staph pneumonia or lung cancer. Likelihood depending on demographics and symptoms.
TB rate here is roughly 5.5/100,000.
In other places TB would be the most likely choice.

@BrentAWilliams2 I always use to wonder why.
Then I broke a tooth that had been previously salvaged with root canal after a facial trauma.
It was completely irrational, but I was googling how to keep the tooth.
I now have a much more useful implant than the replaced tooth.

@AccPharmacist In Australia, rifampicin 600mg comes to mind. Not sure it’s still on the market, but when it was there was a generic for 150mg and 300mg but only brand for 600mg. Up to 10x the price per mg.

What prescription medications have you seen where one strength is significantly more expensive than all the others?

@Jwarne @taipan168 @fictillius Some airports are unreasonably slow. KTM and PBH both took ages last year despite small flights and not much other traffic.
I don’t recall DEL being an issue (?lots of luggage typically)
MLE was quick but I got pulled for an in depth customs screen that took forever.

I've never been a purely carry-on traveller. For a trip of up to 10 days so in a warm climate, sure. However, if you need cold weather gear (eg. Antarctica, Iceland) or equipment like hiking or ski boots, it's pretty hard to do carry-on only.
