@conor64 @NickWolfinger The CDC developing its own PCR test, fucking it up out of hubris and incompetence, and the FDA forcing everyone to use the flawed CDC test instead of letting choose a better test. But to be fair, I mistrusted Public Health before it was cool.

A question for everyone: survey data suggests that by the end of the Covid-19 emergency trust in public health institutions had decreased significantly. If you are among the people who reacted that way, why specifically? I'm hoping for long, diverse, individualized answers.

@conor64 The CDC refused to recommend students return to school for a WHOLE YEAR. Our school district didn’t reopen til Sept 2021. How many children will never recover from that? How many kids went hungry? How many were trapped in abusive homes? I will NEVER forgive them for that.

@conor64 UW scientists had been collecting samples from patients with flu-like illnesses for years and realized that they could test those samples for COVID (in early 2020!) and see to what extent the disease had already spread in the US. It took public health officials weeks to allow it.

One of the reasons I've never bought any wrist-based fitness trackers like Fitbit is because I see the list of things they purportedly measure and simply don't believe they can all be accurately tracked by a tiny censor on my wrist. Pulse? Sure. Steps and whether you're walking or running? Yeah. Most other things? No.

Compared to actual polysomnography, it seems even the best sleep trackers aren't that accurate when it comes to measuring sleep stages.

Easy Aerial is leaving the Brooklyn Navy Yard. @BklynNavyYard leadership made the right decision last month to not renew their lease. This public asset should not be leasing space to companies producing drones that are being transformed into weapons of war.

@CompletedStreet We have more trees in our 130-house neighborhood in Palm Beach County, Florida than the typical San Franciscan will see in a week. Photo from a few days ago:

My proposed budget makes a historic investment — $244 million dollars — the largest-ever supplemental budget investment in housing. With those dollars we will build and protect thousands of affordable housing units, make it easier for first-time home buyers to enter the market, and accelerate the process to build housing. We must continue to be bold, and make historic investments in housing — both in policy and in dollars.

@MrDanielBuck Our kids did a whole week-long Black Lives Matter in Schools curriculum. Including coloring an activity book with the *original* 13 BLM principles.

@ProfDBernstein In my field (environment), this kind of language was 100% required by the Biden admin for grant proposals. It’s infuriating to be penalized now for something that was required then.

On the one hand, the Trump administration should have found a way to bring this program into compliance rather than simply cut off funding. On the other, what would possibly lead a program for deaf-blind children to announce that it discriminates based on race/ethnicity when deciding which kids to help?

Someone should start a nostalgia-bait account that's just pictures of the present day, college kids playing volley ball on the beach in Santa Cruz, leafy New England villages, cub scouts roasting marshmallows around a campfire. It's all still happening, you just aren't doing it.

I have a female friend. She's unhappily married and looking for advice: She does almost all of the housework. Her husband doesn't do much around the house. Ok, he occasionally takes out the trash or mows the lawn. But he does little housework compared to her. She does all the cooking, vacumming, laundry, washing dishes, etc. Despite her being the homemaker, she also pays half of the bills. He expects her to pay half. Because, he says, it's 2025 and women are capable of working too. Well, um, shouldn't he do more housework then? She keeps asking him to contribute more around the house. He keeps giving excuses. Putting it off. He says that she's just better at housework than him. She thinks he's not making a real effort. Whenever she brings up the topic, he reminds her that he washed the dishes once a while ago 😒 What should she do? They have no kids, by the way.

@dr_kkjetelina No one believes a CDC employee would do anything to protect American lives. They were most responsible for keeping children out of school during the pandemic. I will never forgive them.

You know Kate Winslet in Contagion? Where she runs into a hot zone, risking her life, so Americans could be safer? She was an EIS officer. That’s who was just fired at CDC today. EIS officers. And many, many more public servants fighting every day for your health.

OK, watched 2 ep. Characters are competent, work hard, get along, & are quite morally confident, you might even say "smug". Show telegraphs its liberal stance re gender, war, religion.
