Given the horrific destruction that Israel’s extremist government has wrought on Gaza, Iran and Lebanon, the last thing in the world American taxpayers need to do right now is to provide 22,000 new bombs to the Netanyahu government. No more weapons to support an illegal war.

Josh Paul from @ANewPolicyOrg here - This is false, and @AP is correct. Per my own State Department contacts, among the jobs cut by @SecRubio last year were: 6 people working on countering violent extremism, 9 others working on counterterrorism, 5 people from the Middle East (NEA) Bureau, over 150 people working on consular support for Ameircans overseas, and almost 70 from the Bureau of Diplomatic Security, the agency responsible for protecting our Embassies. I've talked to many of them - it didn't make sense then, and it certainly doesn't now.

As we told @AP ahead of time, this story is not based in reality, but they wouldn't be deterred by the facts. We gave them detailed responses, but instead, they relied on vague and inaccurate criticism from unnamed or outside sources. Here is some of what we provided:

In the only Sde Teiman case investigated, with video evidence and a Palestinian detainee left with severe injuries, including rectal damage, the charges were dropped. It’s only that Sde Teiman is a torture camp. We know this from the soldier testimonies we have collected 🧵

To the pro-Israel hawks upset at me bc Joe Kent is listing Israel's influence in this war as part of his rationale: Might I suggest the President and Secretary of State stop talking about Israel's influence on getting into this war and offer another rationale that is even remotely plausible that justifies American troop deaths & a $100 billion taxpayer commitment.
Tim Miller@Timodc

Have talked a lot of shit about Joe Kent over the years (deserved) and can't speak to all of his motivations here but I gotta say its pretty refreshing to see that someone in the administration has a red line on something.

Joseph Kent, a top counterterrorism official under Trump, just resigned. Kent and I don't agree on much, but he is right: "Iran posed no imminent threat to our nation, and it is clear that we started this war due to pressure from Israel and its powerful American lobby."
