@yacineMTB ML fundamentally lives or dies based on data, so anyone doing ML is a data guy… or should be if they take their role seriously.

I implore people to just take a beat before hitting send on that tweet
Ashley Parker@AshleyRParker

Like anyone who’s spent any time around politics, I have many Lindsey Graham stories. This is perhaps my favorite… I was covering Congress (Best! Beat! Ever!) for the NYT when the Mother Emanuel shooting happened in Charleston. It was summer, but I was wearing pants and a sweater that day because it was always SO freezing in the Capitol. Anyhow, news of the shooting came down, and the DC Bureau chief called me with an order: Get yourself to Charleston ASAP and glue yourself to Graham’s side. She wanted a piece on the senator grappling with the unimaginable. So I headed straight to the airport, arriving in Charleston with just my backpack and what I’d be wearing to work that day, and linked up with Graham. He had me meet him at a restaurant, where I told him I needed to shadow him for the next 48 hours. And he looked at me, with amused distaste, and said: “You are sticky. And you are icky. If you want to shadow me, go buy some nice new clothes—maybe a dress—and take a shower, and then we’ll talk.” (He was not wrong; I was sweaty and gross). So I drove to a local big box store, bought a dress (he seemed to have a strong preference for a dress), and spent the next few days with him, resulting in this piece (which, for reasons not worth getting into, ended up being fairly different than the original assignment): nytimes.com/2015/06/20/us/…

@texasrunnerDFW Especially when you consider the additional 25% of the purchase price on renovations and interest rates. Having a family does tilt more in favor of owning, but if you have no kids, it’s harder to justify.

we're reached a point where AIs effect on GDP is significantly more bottlenecked on people understanding how to push it to it's limits than model intelligence at best, people outside tech and sf use it as a fancy information lookup tool or automated reviewing

I graduated high school with a 2.5 GPA and was a late bloomer before making it to Duke Law and Kirkland. I’m not saying give up. But if you think there aren’t people who’ve excelled their whole lives and are miles ahead that you’ll never catch, you’re kidding yourself.

there is a very very simple reason why openai gets clowned on x now (even reddit) & why they lost a ton of public support at least with the closest power audiences. they face more negative press & vibes than any other ai company today. why? - it is not because of their product execution or execution in general. - it is not because of the owner of this platform. - it is not because of the transition from non profit to profit. - it is not because ppl are afraid of ai or job loss. - it is not because of their communication strategy or lack of potential strategy in general. - it is not because of their acquisitions. - it is not because of the lawsuits. - it is not because of their relationship deterioration with microsoft or apple. - it is certainly not because of the personality of sam altman. - it is not because of the endless drama on the personnel or the founders attempted coup. if you understand the mechanics of culture, you figure it out rather quickly. & it’s only one word. can you guess what it is?

@FlexibleDemeanr @OfficialLoganK The problem is usually getting permission, privacy concerns and how to apply quality control at scale. If physical spaces or capture apparatus is required, now you have to deal with procurement and location arrangements. Lots of pain, and why synthetic data is so attractive

@OfficialLoganK I was always confused by people saying early on saying training data was going to be a bottleneck. It's so obvious that training data is literally all around us and AI can even create it's own novel training data just like people and other systems do

it’s surprising to me how many people seem to not understand that great models are built with super high quality curated data finding novel ways to create / get this data is a huge edge

@xmjEE @StefanFSchubert Basically, it only matters if you make it matter to yourself. At that point it starts exerting a downward gravitational pull on your psyche. Those who shrug off those pretensions and anxieties just get on with the task at hand and waste less energy.

Yeah, same with Oxford and Cambridge. Huge intra-university quality differences. The top unis are top thanks to a big fraction of top people being there, not thanks to a big fraction of people there being top.

@StefanFSchubert @jo3hill Agree completely with @StefanFSchubert. The LSE is *the* top university for Economics outside the US and simultaneously hosts @jacksonhinkle, a pro poverty, anti-human flourishing campaigner nonpareil, a worthy companion to e.g. the UMass Amherst Economics Department.

@paularambles 😞 would she have had the same success if she had lived pay-check to pay-check stacking shelves in a supermarket? For artists it increasingly seems like pay-to-play. You need money to create opportunities.

@randomrecruiter I think it comes down to a choice: Do I take care of myself? Do I surround myself with energetic, can-do people? Am I working on things I find meaningful?

@randomrecruiter Just a number. I once worked with a guy who looked 40. He did not take care of his body, he moved through each day with a dour expression on his face. It blew my mind to learn he was only 29. Conversely, I now work with 40+ year olds who have the same energy as 30.

@Good_Tweet_USA This was the most fun Theo had in a long time. You could tell he needed some Duncan. Theo is his worst enemy man. Chronically online and it comes out in his behavior. The things he says. He's living in anxiety. It's sad. He's too sensitive to consume as much internet as he does.

QUESTION MARK: One of Elon’s companies has limited employee token usage to just $200 per week, while another Elon company is saying everyone will use so much AI that we’ll need space data centers because Earth will run out of power, plus TeraFabs to produce a terawatt of chips per year. How does this even make sense?

@Aaronontheweb @steipete The Zig creator said in a rather sneering way that the Bun dude had big “beginner energy”. Kinda patronising. The latter is now making generational wealth at Anthropic, so I guess it doesn’t matter now.

Against my will, I have been forced to learn about the Bun / Zig drama. Here's my understanding: - Bun == thing that crashes OpenCode & Claude Code - Rust == artisanal programming language for furries - Zig == even more artisanal programming language for devs who think Rust is too mainstream - Anthropic acquires Bun because machine god says so - Bun uses machine god to rewrite from Zig to Rust - Zig creator accuses Bun of selling out, going mainstream, or something - Bun still crashes Claude Code and Open Code
