On this International Day of Zero Waste, we spotlight APHRC’s #AfriFOODlinks work in Kisumu, where surplus food is being rescued from markets and redirected to communities through an EU-funded initiative coordinated by @ICLEIAfrica, implemented by #IamAPHRC in collaboration with @foodbankingke. Today, APHRC alongside @KELINKenya, @IILAinfo, @KenyaNCCK, and @NCDAllianceKe signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) marking the official launch of the Food Policy Coalition Kenya. In his remarks, APHRC’s Director of Programs, Synergy, Dr. Anthony Mveyange, emphasized that "Umoja ni nguvu, utengano ni udhaifu" — Unity is strength, calling for more collaborative efforts to address the burden of Non-communicable diseases (NCDs). The coalition comes at a critical moment in Kenya, with the Ministry of Health reporting that NCDs account for 43.5% of deaths and over 50% total hospital admissions. #IMNCH2026 concluded on a high note!! From data innovation to bold reproductive, maternal, newborn child, and adolescent health (RMNCAH) strategies and candid policy conversations-truly inspiring. Here are some of the key takeaways from the week-long deliberations: ✅ Saving more mothers & newborns is possible even with fewer resources if we shift from access to effective, quality care (especially for Emergency Obstetric and Newborn Care). ✅ Fiscal accountability is critical.
