@bmfshow I don't mind having junk games in the app lab as it allows for innovation as some may be real winners, it's only a problem when all that unproven and uncurated junk sits among the actual quality games. There needs to be a separate section for app lab games again.

The Quest store downright sucks to be frank. Look at this list of the most recent releases on Quest. How in the world can there be so many GT clones. Half of them even use the same thumbnail as each other! This is just the last few days.

@Heaney555 That is indeed not certain, then let’s assume they get 0%. Then still the reality labs part only grew revenue by 12% in 2024, this is not enough to be considered worth while to focus on for meta. So they have to shift strategy and focus on a segment with more growth potential.

@Heaney555 Calculations are based on their last investor presentation and the leak of the number of ray bans sold. If you track the public numbers of reality labs you can see that the quest total revenue (including store etc.) appears to have decline since a while.

@Heaney555 Retention numbers and ray band glasses have growth, quest had roughly a 12% decline last year (based on my estimates). If quest is already declining with such a low cost device, and absolute hits like Batman, meta seems to have lost interest.

@James_Abev I mean you can't have the "Metaverse" if the core is not also accessible (and appealing) on mobile. This is an area where things like Roblox, Fortnite, Rec Room etc. were very much ahead of the curve. That said, I think Meta's current strategy for mobile is very flawed.

After an amazing four years, I've decided to move on from my role at Unity. It feels surreal to write this. Unity didn't just change my career, it completely changed my life. Learning this engine (and C#) catapulted me into the tech industry, where I got to work alongside world experts, develop for cutting-edge devices, and help tens of thousands of creators bring their visions to life. I met and collaborated with people/studios that are a huge inspiration (and tried not to be starstruck!) - from @OwlchemyLabs to YouTube educators (@jweimann , @UnityCodeMonkey, @TurboMakesGames, @samyam_youtube) to @XR_Bootcamp, to the @creaturedotpage team, to countless industry stars. That's what I'll miss the most - meeting brilliant creators whose work I admire. I hope we stay in touch. 💗 Some people have called me “the face of Unity in XR" (!!) which is flattering but inaccurate. Firstly, because I am part of a huge collective. My colleagues at Unity are some of the most talented, brilliant and passionate folks I've ever met. But ultimately, the face of Unity is YOU, the community: the developers, artists, engineers, and dreamers who bring their ideas to life every day. This is especially true in XR, which is constantly evolving, shaped by your ideas and innovation. It's been a privilege to be part of that. I’m very excited about my next chapter! I'm staying in the world of XR as an engineer, focused on hands-on dev and deepening my technical skills. I'd like to continue sharing my expertise to help others too, at events or online. Now that I'm a free agent, I could even start a YouTube channel! 👀 To everyone who’s been part of this journey - thank you. Whether you are a colleague, collaborator, you used my tutorials, or we met at an event, I am so unspeakably grateful to all of you.
