YES!!! Victory - let there be more light FWIW DST is currently Sun, Mar 8, 2026 – Sun, Nov 1, 2026 and is the practice of advancing clocks to make better use of the longer daylight available during summer by having darkness fall at a later clock time.

308-117: House voted to make Daylight Saving Time (DST) permanent year-round and nationwide. The Sunshine Protection Act, which now heads to the Senate, does permit states to exempt themselves from the twice-a-year time change.

Changing the clocks twice a year isn't just inconvenient — it's disruptive to our daily lives @RepKatCammack highlights. The Sunshine Protection Act makes Daylight Saving Time permanent, so Americans will no longer have to keep changing their clocks and they can enjoy more sunshine in the evenings.

According to Grok: No, there is little to no robust scientific evidence that Daylight Saving Time (DST) decreases depression or broadly improves mental health. Most research points to neutral, mixed, or negative effects from DST transitions and periods. Key Findings from Studies: •Living under DST (vs. standard time) shows no consistent mental health benefits. A comprehensive systematic review of 157 studies found no clear and consistent effects on psychiatric outcomes. Some potential benefits (e.g., fewer certain crimes in summer under DST) exist, but mental health impacts are not uniformly positive or negative. •Broader circadian and light evidence emphasizes that morning light (more aligned with standard time in many regions) is often more beneficial for mood than evening light shifts from DST. Studies on bright light therapy for seasonal affective disorder (SAD) and depression show morning exposure is more effective at advancing circadian rhythms and reducing symptoms. Greater daytime light exposure (independent of DST) correlates with lower depression risk, while nighttime light increases it. •Supporting context: Genetic and chronotype studies link earlier sleep/wake times (more standard-time aligned) to ~23% lower depression risk per hour. Social jetlag and circadian misalignment (exacerbated by DST) are tied to higher anxiety, depression, and cognitive issues. Why Claims of Benefits Fall Short: Proponents sometimes cite more evening daylight for mood or activity, but evidence does not support net mental health gains. Reviews highlight that any “extra” evening light comes at the cost of darker mornings, which can worsen alignment for many people. Permanent DST proposals face opposition from sleep and mental health experts for similar reasons. In short, while natural daylight is beneficial for mental health, DST as a policy does not reliably deliver improvements and can introduce disruptions. Evidence is stronger for minimizing clock changes or favoring standard time alignments in many contexts.

I get asked about my Sunshine Protection Act all the time. It’s simple: Let’s leave the decision up to the states so we don’t have to change our clocks twice a year. I’m thrilled that the house has finally passed it. The Senate needs to take it up NOW and send it to President Trump‘s desk.

If you hate 4 p.m. sunsets, Congress may finally have good news. A Trump-backed bill that would allow states to keep Daylight Saving Time year-round is moving closer to a full House vote after advancing out of the House Rules Committee. President Trump celebrated the move, calling the twice-a-year clock change a "ridiculous" ritual and urging Congress to pass the measure.

The Sunshine Protection Act has been nearly a decade in the making. I fought for it in the Florida Legislature back in 2018, and now Congress is finally acting. It’s time to end the outdated ritual of springing forward and falling back. It’s time to LOCK the CLOCK! ⏰🔒☀️

I consistently hear from Georgians in the 12th District who are sick and tired of resetting their clocks twice a year. We're one step closer! I just voted to pass the Sunshine Protection Act, which would make Daylight Saving Time (DST) permanent—eliminating the twice-yearly change. Help me urge the Senate to get it done!
Energy and Commerce Committee@HouseCommerce

✅ JUST PASSED: The Sunshine Protection Act It’s time to lock the clock. Twice a year, Americans have to disrupt their daily lives, springing forward and falling back an hour. The Sunshine Protection Act ends that for good, meaning there's more light at the end of the day for people to exercise outdoors, return safely from school, and attract customers to their retail businesses.

Today, the House passed the Sunshine Protection Act to end the biannual time change and keep the nation in Daylight Saving Time permanently. This will provide Americans with an extra hour of daylight in the evenings during the winter to enjoy the outdoors, visit family members, and more.
