@JonathanCohn I am a tier one Clyburn hater (happy to point to some recent receipts), but this isn't it. SC dem voters are blacker than GA & it's a way cheaper media market when we don't want the Early states to be a coronation for who has the biggest warchest to spend on adds.

@RoKhanna He was a civil rights activist who still probably doesn't know the implicit bias in this tech. He's washed & deserves condemnation for his current self interested behavior as much as be deserves praise for who he was.

@RoKhanna Every time you take a step forward, you do some bootlicking, moderate shit like this. Clyburn was a titan 50 years ago. He now sucks at his job so bad that he doesn't know what the greatest threads to working class people's jobs is.

@dianelyssa She's not black. She's Puerto Rican, Cherokee and has a white grandpa based on her own self identifying, which tells every thing you need to know.

@james_mtc @janekleeb @jonfavs @mburns2009 The fact that she said that they chose SC to reach black voters (& I do acknowledge some validity in your critique of the black voters) & then proceed to offer NV as a better first state is telling to your ignoring of how crucial black voters are to the Dem coalition

Okay, I’ll take your arguments at face value, since you seem to be arguing earnestly. So let's start with order. Within your own "collective story" framing, SC isn't third or fourth or fifth, it's first. First has primacy. For 40yrs, the first primary day has regularly pulled around 20% of the entire season's network and print coverage. In 2024, nearly 80% of candidate campaign events through mid-January happened in just the first two states. And candidates often dropout before the voting even starts in states 3-5. In 2016, 40% of the candidates dropped out before Iowa. In 2008 and 2004, 20% dropped before Iowa each cycle. First is different. First matters more. And yes, South Carolina does have strong Black voters. But those voters skew older, more conservative, and more churched than the rest of the Democratic Black coalition and the country. They are statistically NOT representative of the Black voters a Dem candidate needs to win the general. They're on the margins of that definition, perhaps even contradictory to the general-winning coalition. On rural voters: most South Carolina Democratic primary voters are not rural. If you want the primary to reflect rural voters, you'd pick a state where that's true, like Wisconsin. On states willing to move their date: in this very thread, you explained how the party would punish New Hampshire for not moving, and you've already done that once. You can't have it both ways. Either willingness matters OR you are punitive and set the maximal strategy regardless. Willingness is not a serious argument here. But… let’s put it all in context of your “collective story.” If we take your own stated goals seriously, we'd look to the following states instead: - A bellwether state that actually tests general election viability in the South: Georgia, not SC - A cheap media market that's broadly representative of the country: Nevada, not SC - A single state proxy for the coalition that wins the presidency: Michigan, which you put fifth, not first Every one of your stated criteria points at a state OTHER than SC. That tells me your list might be right for states two through five. It just makes South Carolina all the more conspicuous, because it doesn't meet any of your stated criteria better than the states that follow it, and yet you gave it primacy. @jonfavs am I crazy here or is SC conspicuously a strange choice for first against their own criteria?

Yes. They will run a party-run primary on the date given. The government run primary will not count towards delegates (no different than when MANY states held party-run caucuses in 2008 and their government primaries results didn't count towards dnc delegate count). New fines and penalties written into rules also. Happy to come on to discuss :)

@ADirector33 Don't be so hyperbolic. No one is recruiting players these days with the idea that they'd keep them for 4 let alone 5 years

The redshirt is dead — and most programs aren’t ready for what that means. Every scholarship now starts a 5-year clock the moment a kid enrolls or turns 19. No extensions. No medical freezes. That changes recruiting, roster building, and player development in one stroke. Birthday math is now part of every offer conversation. A kid who turns 19 before he steps on campus has already burned time. Coaches who ignore that will regret it. The portal gets leaner but more expensive. Fewer players with extra eligibility means a smaller pool — and the ones in it will cost more. The programs that win this era won’t be the ones with the most NIL money. They’ll be the ones who evaluate 17-year-olds better than everyone else and stop hiding developmental needs behind a redshirt year. The margin for error just got really small. @jrichardgoodman @VinnysCorner1 @SergeantMartee @BeholdPaleH0rse #portal #NCAA @latsondheimer @KasselMedia #recruits #eligibility #hssports #coaches #coach

BREAKING: The NCAA is officially adopting the age-based eligibility structure, giving players 5 years to play 5 seasons from either when they enroll or from the season they turn 19 (whichever comes first). The Division I cabinet was unanimous in their vote for the new model.

@JosinaAnderson It was just a piss. You're being an overreacting diva. Poor lady needed to go. Would you have let her use your bathroom? F no! Right? You wouldn't want the riff raff that delivers your food to enter your home, right? It's not like she laid a turd on your lawn.

Hey @UberEats, @Uber_Support You just had a delivery woman come to my home, put the food by my door, then walk to the side of my house, take off her jeans, pull down her underwear and take a full butter bean piss in the yard, in the full wide open. Your “support” just responded on the help chat to say there’s nothing you all can do about this in the guidelines in concession to me…. Ask me how I know she did that & see if you wanna rethink that.. I’ll be on standby.

My house burned down. I lost everything. I can’t rebuild. As a 42 year old man with 2 kids, I’ve had to move into my parents’ house, and I’m getting attacked for that? This is journalism? This is why no decent people ever get into politics. This is why you only have goblins running everything. God help you if you try to make things right for your community…if you lose your entire town, “journalists” mock you for not making your kids sleep in the toxic dirt on your burned out lot. Who raised you, dude?

@ElliscbIV Dems are starting to understand retail politics. If Abdul gets the nomination, mom & pop in Greenville, who have voted blue for decades, will be asked to support an openly socialist candidate. Dems are not the brightest people, but how many older democrats support socialism?

The issue for McMorrow right now goes far beyond endorsements. It’s the result of a clear momentum shift away from her and toward El-Sayed, prompting the establishment to rush to Stevens’ aid and making it much harder for McMorrow to stay relevant in the process.

Since Bryce Hopkins in all likeliness is going to be undrafted, and may never end up playing under the bright lights, I wonder if he regrets his decision Obviously he made millions in NIL (borderline fraud), and had a plethora of connections, but that St Johns degree might offset all that and spawn him back at level 1

After reading crap from the PCBC about Malik Mack, with them questioning his sexuality for 2 years, it is only appropriate he is their new PG. Now for the past few weeks these bitter clowns are posting about Ed Cooley's marriage and also claiming Ed is in rehab. This is disgusting false slander and just makes PC look so bad if these idiots are the face of the program. When are the adults tied to PC, the proud alums and donors, going to speak up and put these children in their place? It is unacceptable behavior from a supposed Catholic institution.

Have to say I’m a fan of this as well Right type of talent gamble. Has the burst/toughness of a Cooley guard If u want to convince yourself he unlocks something in a bigger role, he’s played 25+ minutes in 13 games (11 vs P5 teams) - 10.6 ppg - 46.7% FG - Kansas: 11-2 record

@hoyasszn Really hard to rate without a full picture. If Lowe is the best player we & others are his level/below, it's a 6.5. If we go get a stud PF who can block shots from the weak side with a little stretch & a Vanterpool type guard, this could become a 9.
