Archaeology is not a soft profession. Sometimes the people who guard the past die for it.

Something that truly needs to change in Policing is the use of the word ‘optics’. Last night a colleague was knocked out by a bottle, during a Public Order situation, needlessly. If you’re policing a group of football fans known to throw missiles and fireworks at Police Officers and each other, Police it with fully kitted Public Order Officers. It doesn’t look aggressive, it looks perfectly reasonable in the circumstances. Take the Italian State Police - Polizia Di Stato - for example. I had the pleasure of working with them earlier this year. They have their own ‘Flying Squad’ or ‘Squadra Volante’ to deal with the most hardened criminal gangs and Public Order incidents. When asked about their uniforms and if they worried about ‘optics’ they laughed, hard. They wear it to be identified and to keep them safe whilst dealing with violent and volatile situations. That’s all that should matter. #ThinBlueLine 🚨

Years after that photograph was taken, Harry even joked that Beckham was probably Katie's childhood crush. But life had written a different story. The boy who once stood beside his football hero became England captain. And the girl standing next to him became his wife. Sometimes, an ordinary photograph is only ordinary because we haven't seen the future yet
