This should be a slam dunk. The Florida constitution is quite clear on the ban of partisan gerrymandering. The Florida supreme court upholding the map would be an unprecedented defiance of a states constitution and should warrant federal intervention from the federal courts.
The Redistrict Network@RedistrictNet

Plaintiffs assert that the new Florida congressional map violates the state constitution’s ban on partisan gerrymandering and non-compactness, and the state constitution’s requirement to use political and geographic boundaries to draw new districts.

@SJonNantucket @ElectionCenter_ you don’t throw out an entire constitutional amendment just because one part of it may be an issue. Partisan gerrymandering is specifically prohibited by the Fair Districts Amendment. The guy that drew the map admitted that it was a partisan gerrymander.

@ElectionCenter_ The problem is the Fair Districts Amendment specifically takes into account race which now makes it unconstitutional

@TheStatsRobot There's your mistake. You think what Florida did was against their state constitution. It wasn't. However, what Virginia did was. Doesn't matter that they held a vote. Virginia state gov was told before hand that the election result doesn't weigh on the constitutionality.

@MiamiPDScanner @marceelias Why are you celebrating the potential elimination of the voter supported ban on partisan gerrymandering in Florida?
English

@·
@marceelias Your 2015 “receipt” is cute, but it’s from a different Florida Supreme Court that no longer exists. Back then, you had a 5-justice liberal-leaning majority (Labarga, Pariente, Lewis, Quince, Perry) that struck down the map. Today? DeSantis has appointed 6 of the 7 justices. The court is now unanimously conservative. That same court already upheld DeSantis’s aggressive 2022 map in Black Voters Matter (2025) and has every incentive to do it again, especially after the U.S. Supreme Court just narrowed the Voting Rights Act on April 29. The Fair Districts Amendment’s partisan-gerrymandering ban is on life support under this bench, and you know it. Pretending the 2015 precedent controls 2026 is legal nostalgia, not serious advocacy. DeSantis isn’t “afraid.” He’s just not in a hurry to give you another fundraising email. The map will be signed, it will be defended, and you’ll continue to cope and seethe. 😘

Anyone who is wondering why DeSantis is waiting to sign the new Florida map it is because he is scared he will lose in court. I beat Republicans before when they broke the state constitution by partisan redistricting and I will do it again. Here are my receipts.

There's only one way to actually make a "gerrymandering ban" work, and that's to get rid of districts. It's very simple: multimember statewide Congressional representation. You can do this with ranked choice, party lists, etc. Ask a political scientist or voting expert about this
Micah Erfan@micah_erfan

Even without the VRA, Democrats could still come out ahead in the redistricting wars. However, this is a race to hell. We need a nationwide gerrymandering ban.

@ms8955a @nathanlgonzales Drawing districts by race is racial discrimination. It was allowed as a "make up call" for 6 decades to offset the discrimination that took place prior to that in the other direction. Both were wrong. It's about time the practice ended (either direction).

Alabama Republicans control both U.S. Senate seats, all constitutional offices, every state judgeship, and have legislative supermajorities, so it makes perfect sense for us to hold every congressional seat, too. We are bright red state, and our congressional map should show it.

@MappingFL Even if the Florida SC strikes minority protections, it would be baffling to throw out the amendment entirely when that provision is easily separated from the restriction on partisan gerrymandering.

Sticking with Florida for a moment The Callais decision is NOT what DeSantis wanted. He insisted the court would strike down the use of race entirely and hence invalidate Florida’s own racial protections That didn’t happen. Means Florida’s Fair Districts are still the law

I don’t think he was genuinely threatening Trump. But what a stupid, childish display from someone at his level of seniority. What the hell was he doing? Thinking? A six year old could have come up with that. He’s in his 60’s. Can you imagine what that must have looked like? The former head of the FBI, walking the beach, picking up seashells and spelling that out. And the he's so proud of himself that he puts it on instagram like a dumbass teenager.

James Comey is likely to face a Trump voting jury in North Carolina. He picked the wrong seashore to make a seashell message. Smart prosecution here. Great venue and a simple case. Comey is a moron to put himself in this legal peril over an Instagram picture.

@1proudliberal @lmower3 @GovRonDeSantis Once the Supreme Court throws out the rest of the Voting Rights Act, Florida is going to argue the Fair Districts Amendment must go, when in reality, only THAT portion should be tossed, IF that's even necessary.

The state employee who drew up @GovRonDeSantis' redistricting map just said that he used party affiliation to do it. The map, in theory, gives 4 more seats to Republicans, giving them 85% of congressional seats. Republicans make up 39% of Florida voters.

It's notable that the excuse Ron DeSantis is going with for his blatant partisan gerrymander is that the Census "undercounted" Florida, yet his map takes a hacksaw to the two Florida metro areas — Orlando and Jacksonville — that are seeing the highest population growth.

Fastest growing 1M+ metros from 2020-2025: Austin, TX: 2.3M → 2.6M (+14%) Raleigh, NC: 1.4M → 1.6M (+13%) Jacksonville, FL: 1.6M → 1.8M (+11%) Dallas, TX: 7.7M → 8.5M (+11%) Orlando, FL: 2.7M → 3.0M (+10%) Houston, TX: 7.2M → 7.9M (+10%)

I realize that laws don't matter anymore, but for me if you are going to cover Florida redistricting, you must lead with the fact that whatever is being proposed here is explicitly prohibited by the state constitution. What are we even doing here.
Dave Wasserman@Redistrict

NEW: per Fox News, new FL map proposed by Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) would target four Dem seats, aiming to convert a 20R-8D delegation to 24R-4D. But in a year like 2026, not all of the 24 seats would be safe for the GOP. More from @CookPolitical soon. foxnews.com/politics/ron-d…

To my friends in Tallahassee: in a state that is ruby red, it’s time to respond to what we saw tonight in Virginia with a redistricting plan that reflects Florida’s true partisan lean—and adds 3–4 GOP seats to our supermajority. Virginia is a purple state being drawn as deep blue. Florida should draw a map that’s even redder—and get it passed ASAP. Cc: @GovRonDeSantis @Daniel_PerezFL @FLSenate
