Trade: The Miami Dolphins are sending Minkah Fitzpatrick to the New York Jets in exchange for the 2026 seventh-round pick from the Chargers, per ESPN sources. The Jets will sign Fitzpatrick to a three-year, $40 million deal, per his agent Drew Rosenhaus.

The $DIMO app UX is incredible too. I saw an offer right in the app to trade in my old car. Clicked a few links and someone delivered a car the next day. One of the most impulsive decisions I made this year.

Remember the Smartphone Wars? The next 10 years of the automotive industry are going to make that look like a snowball fight - Cars are a ~5x larger market than phones - Legacy automakers & suppliers are massive unionized employers with political influence - Car brands are a national source of pride. Historically having a domestic auto industry is viewed as a national security asset. This will get ugly as the knives come out: public markets seem to have priced in a very high chance that some or all of the legacy players like @GM, @Ford , @MercedesBenz , @Stellantis, @VW etc will go bankrupt in the next 5-7 years. Who is going to survive? What's the right strategy? OEM's are all trying to position themselves to take advantage of overlapping technology S-Curves: EVs, Autonomy (AI), Connectivity. One thing is clear: These changes & competitive pressures on legacy auto create opportunities for new models to emerge. This is what we're focused on at @digi_infra_inc and @DIMO_Network - creating an open protocol & network of connected cars and empowering devs to build apps that are 10x better than what any individual OEM can deliver.

If Uber opens up their APIs for Carshare customers and can prove volume, most Turo hosts will likely migrate over. Turo hosts HATE that they closed access to their APIs and severely limited the ability to work with 3rd party apps like @carsyncio and @VehicleGenius.

“Hertz is working to reduce EV damage costs by partnering with OEMs, educating drivers, and improving its underwriting process” Sounds like @Hertz needs to talk to @VehicleGenius about educating their EV renters🤔
That EV Girl ✌🏼@allEVehicles

OOF- this Hertz! 🤕 Hertz is taking a more cautious approach to EVs than it did in the past. The company is still investing in EVs, but it is doing so at a slower pace and with a greater focus on profitability. Hertz is restructuring its EV strategy due to:
•EV damage costs are higher than expected. Hertz is working to reduce EV damage costs by partnering with OEMs, educating drivers, and improving its underwriting process. 💰💥 •Tesla MSRP declines have reduced the fair market value of Hertz's EV fleet. This is leading to larger losses when EVs are salvaged. 📉 •Hertz is over-fleeted with EVs in the leisure channel (car rental). This is driving down RPD (Revenue Per Day) for EVs. 🚘
To address these challenges, Hertz is taking the following steps: •Slowing the pace of EV in-fleeting. This will give Hertz time to reduce EV damage costs and to balance its EV fleet across all channels. 🐢 •Moving more EVs from the leisure channel to the rideshare channel. This will help to improve RPD for EVs. 🚗🔁 •Working with OEMs to improve EV durability and performance. This will help to reduce the risk of EV damage. 🤝💡 •Educating drivers on how to properly operate and care for EVs. This will also help to reduce the risk of EV damage. 👨‍🏫👩‍🎓
Overall, Hertz is restructuring its EV strategy to ensure that it is profitable and sustainable in the long term. The company is committed to offering its customers a wide range of EV options, but it is also taking steps to mitigate the risks associated with EV rental. Go electric ✌️ @Hertz Info: Hertz Q3 Earnings Call

I was looking at Hertz @ LAX this weekend and noticed the Manager's Special "can be" electric or not. Doesn't sound like a great experience is waiting for their customers!

@brandenflasch @Hertz @OutofSpecMom @OutofSpecDave Large scale training of existing employees will take time. @VehicleGenius developed a solution to educate EV rental drivers in real time! Renters simply scan the QR code sticker in their rental car, and get connected to an EV expert via SMS text immediately.

Just spent ~20 min talking to someone with a Polestar 2 that turned out was a rental from @Hertz. They essentially had the same frustrations as @OutofSpecMom and @OutofSpecDave below - didn’t request it (prepaid for a rental but it would’ve been over $100 more for a 4 day rental to get a gas car??) and didn’t get any education from the staff on how to use it, how to charge it, etc. Let’s not kid ourselves - for many people, driving an EV is a huge adjustment and putting someone into an EV that didn’t request it in an unfamiliar city, almost certainly without home charging, is a recipe for a poor experience that will likely turn people off from considering purchasing an EV for themselves. What’s the solution? Better education from rental staff (realistically this should be done via quick start guides, videos, etc - rental agency staffing is a problem that is not likely to get better) and seamless charging options and education about them (even charging a Tesla could be challenging for someone that doesn’t know to look on the screen and that you simply plug in - I’ve been asked many times how billing works, etc). Rental car companies, do better. @Hertz @Enterprise
