𝐄𝐚𝐬𝐭 𝐌𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐭𝐚𝐢𝐧 𝐃𝐨𝐦𝐞𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐜 𝐕𝐢𝐨𝐥𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞 𝐇𝐨𝐦𝐢𝐜𝐢𝐝𝐞 𝐔𝐩𝐝𝐚𝐭𝐞 The Bernalillo County Sheriff’s Office is providing an update on a domestic violence homicide investigation that occurred early this morning at Leisure Mountain RV Park in Tijeras, NM. On February 17, 2026, at approximately 1:18 a.m., BCSO deputies responded to a report of a domestic violence incident. A female caller reported that a male suspect was armed with a handgun. While deputies were en route, dispatch received multiple updates indicating that shots had been fired at the residence. Deputies arrived on scene within approximately seven minutes of the initial 911 call and immediately began working to take the suspect into custody and provide aid to the victims. Upon arrival, deputies encountered a male at the scene who was taken into custody following the deployment of a Taser. The suspect has been identified as 41-year-old Luis Sanchez. A 4-year-old male child was pronounced deceased at the scene. An adult female victim, identified as an Assistant District Attorney with the Second Judicial District Attorney’s Office, and a 1-year-old male child were transported to a local hospital and are listed in critical condition. Sanchez is currently in custody and is expected to be booked within the next several hours on the following charges: -Intentional Child Abuse Resulting in Death -Child Abuse with Great Bodily Harm -Aggravated Battery on a Household Member with Great Bodily Harm -Tampering with Evidence At this time, investigators have identified no prior criminal history for Sanchez and no recent call history associated with the address or phone number in the last 12 months. “This is one of the most horrific scenes our deputies and first responders will ever walk into,” said Sheriff John Allen. “Our hearts are with the victims and their loved ones. We are asking this community to keep the victims, their family, the Second Judicial District Attorney’s Office, and every deputy, detective, 911 call taker, firefighter, and medical professional who responded and is still working this case in your prayers.” This remains an active and ongoing investigation. Additional information will be released as it becomes available and is appropriate to share.

Using the F word is the last refuge of someone who has no response. @GavinNewsom, you are defending pregnant women being tricked or coerced into taking abortion pills. There is no defense. I’m happy to debate this - let me know when and where. You’ll need more than the F word, or you’ll show how bankrupt your argument is.

Louisiana plans to sue me because I won’t extradite a doctor for providing an abortion. @AGLizMurrill: Go fuck yourself. California will never help you criminalize healthcare.

@bodincus @histories_arch Perhaps a "pet" and just as likely an animal in servitude that could wander off or be stolen (goats, pigs et al) so that's why it's welded. It's like a reward offered for safe return.

@histories_arch You're telling me that a slave that is smart enough to manage to flee goes around with a collar that has been put on him as he was enslaved? The first thing any human would do is to remove it. Fugitives ditch their orange suits as soon as they can. That's a pet collar.

Roman slave collar with tag inscribed: “I have fled, seize me and return me to Zoninus for 1 gold coin.” The only known example discovered with its tag still attached.... This iron collar was meant for slaves in the Roman Empire. It has a bronze tag with an inscription that reads: “Fugi. Tene me. Cum revocaveris me, dabis solidum unum Zonino.” Translated, it means: “I have fled. Seize me. If you return me, you will receive one gold coin from Zoninus.” The tag served both as an identification marker and a bounty notice, ensuring that any attempt at escape was met with constant risk of capture. Slavery was central to Roman society, with enslaved people working in households, workshops, fields, and mines. Collars like this, sometimes called vincula servorum (“chains of slaves”), were a brutal tool of control and dehumanization. They reduced a person’s identity to property, publicly displaying both their enslaved status and their owner’s authority. What makes this artifact extraordinary is its survival in complete form, with both the iron collar and bronze tag still together. It offers rare, tangible evidence of the realities of slavery in the ancient world, beyond the accounts left by Roman writers. #archaeohistories

@vscalabrino2 @histories_arch Using "whataboutism" doesn't justify your 21st Century retort. What attitude (superiority, for example) are you NEEDING support & why would you CHOOSE antiquated before 1st Century Iron Age beliefs rather than express empathy for ANY slavery? Particularly if in chains?

On this day—January 5—exactly 21 years ago, in 2006, astronomers Mike Brown, Chad Trujillo, and David Rabinowitz announced the discovery of a distant, icy world that would forever change our understanding of the solar system: Eris.Originally designated 2003 UB₃₁₃ and nicknamed "Xena" by its discoverers (with its moon later informally called "Gabrielle"), Eris was found using images taken in October 2003 at Palomar Observatory. Early estimates suggested it was slightly larger than Pluto, with a diameter around 2,400–2,600 km and significantly more massive (about 27% more mass than Pluto). Later refined measurements place its diameter at approximately 2,326 km—very close to Pluto's 2,377 km—making it the second-largest known dwarf planet after Pluto.Orbiting in the scattered disc, a sparse, dynamically unstable region beyond the classical Kuiper Belt, Eris follows a highly eccentric path (e = 0.44) that takes it from about 38 AU at perihelion to nearly 98 AU at aphelion, completing one orbit every 557 Earth years. Its surface is brilliantly reflective (albedo ~0.96), covered in methane and nitrogen frost, giving it a strikingly white appearance. Its small moon, Dysnomia (discovered shortly after Eris itself), likely formed from a giant impact, much like Earth's Moon. The discovery of Eris—along with other large trans-Neptunian objects like Haumea and Makemake—exposed a fundamental issue: the solar system contained many Pluto-sized (or nearly so) bodies. If Pluto remained the ninth planet, consistency demanded that Eris and others join the list, potentially expanding the planet count indefinitely. This crisis prompted the International Astronomical Union (IAU) to convene in Prague in August 2006 and establish the first formal definition of a "planet":It orbits the Sun. It has sufficient mass to assume hydrostatic equilibrium (a nearly round shape). It has cleared the neighborhood around its orbit. Pluto and Eris satisfy the first two criteria but not the third—both share their orbital zones with numerous other bodies in the Kuiper Belt and scattered disc. Consequently, on August 24, 2006, the IAU reclassified them as dwarf planets, a new category that also includes Ceres, Haumea, and Makemake (with more candidates awaiting confirmation).Eris didn't just demote Pluto—it forced astronomy to mature its classification system, acknowledging the rich diversity of small worlds beyond Neptune. Mike Brown famously titled his memoir "How I Killed Pluto and Why It Had It Coming."Two decades later, Eris remains a symbol of how discovery can upend long-held assumptions, reminding us that science thrives on revision. A fitting legacy for a world named after the Greek goddess of discord.

It's devastating that a young child was caught in the violence at a gas station last night, with a life lost and others injured. I'm relieved the child is now safe and unharmed. I have confidence the task force will get to the bottom of what happened.

Love is cruel. There are only memories. There hasn’t been one day, not one, that I have the memories of their love for me and mine for them hit me like a truck. It is so painful. When you’ve truly loved with all your heart the pain never stops. Good memories are also painful.
