As a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, I've had my faith relentlessly attacked, undermined, and slandered my entire life. I've seen all the common arguments and points, outright lies, ridiculous theories, and propaganda. It's been both frustrating and enlightening. I've been forced to study and understand my religion. I've had to draw closer to Jesus Christ as I've sought out truth. I try to follow the counsel given in Doctrine and Covenants 88:118: And as all have not faith, seek ye diligently and teach one another words of wisdom; yea, seek ye out of the best books words of wisdom; seek learning, even by study and also by faith. Which brings me to my questions; those who intentionally are critical and seek to undercut the faith of members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Why? What drives you? Why would you intentionally destroy someone's sincere faith? I'm not looking for generic answers like "It's a false religion" or "Because you follow a different Jesus". Those are cop-out cookie-cutter answers that don't stand up to any serious scrutiny. I'm trying to figure out why the broader mainstream Christian world feels like it's okay to collectively dunk on a religion.

Why are so many gatekeepers of Christianity afraid to read the Book of Mormon with a sincere heart and then pray to see if it is true? If it is purely fiction, your sincere heart would and plea to God would thusly indicate.

Can we see the burning bush? Can we see the rod of Aaron that budded? Can we see the manna preserved from the wilderness? Can we see the angel Gabriel? Can we see the Mount of Transfiguration event? Can we see Pentecost? Yet Christians accept all of those things based on witness testimony and faith. The irony is that the Book of Mormon actually has more direct witnesses than many biblical events. Eleven men publicly testified they saw or handled the plates, and several maintained that testimony even after leaving Joseph Smith and the Church. The question isn't whether you can see the plates today. The question is whether the witnesses were telling the truth.

I am a member of the Church of Mormon. I believe in the Trinity, reject Joseph Smith as a prophet, and oppose the notion that Jesus and Satan are brothers. But since my church has Mormon in the name, I am a Mormon, and I demand that the world recognize me as such.

It does seem that the LDS are being unfairly singled out here. If the essential criterion for Christianity is Trinitarian theology, why do the Jehovah’s Witnesses, Christian Scientists, Oneness Pentecostals, and even Quakers (in some instances) get a pass here?
