I know some trad parents who have disallowed things as tame as Bluey, ATLA, Marvel. I don’t think we do our kids any favors by sheltering them, but by letting them have access to the battles they can fight, gradually, and the ability to make choices they are mature enough for. The goal can’t be to keep them utterly safe, only to cast them into the world as adults. The goal needs to be practice toward mastery of self and of the world.

Found out today that some friends of ours, trads, have only one kid left practicing the faith because the kids grew up to run from the overly strict moral views of their parents. Begging you good folks to make our faith first about encounter and friendship with Christ and to avoid being too strict and imposing more than the Church does. I’ve seen it break so many over the years. Let your kids enjoy things, provided they are not sinful. I’m begging you. Don’t wrap your own hang-ups in the Catholic identity.

Tonight I was received into the Catholic Church. I received the sacrament of Communion and Confirmation under the patronage of Saint Andrew at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Miami Beach, administered by Bishop Delgado.

Teachers average among the least intelligent university graduates. Little of what they 'learn' is even relevant to what they end up doing. In a given year, the lowest-scoring groups on the GRE, SAT, and ACT are usually those pursuing degrees in education.

Actually neither of us are qualified to homeschool children because we both have not obtained degrees in childhood education hope this helps, Allie.

@aidannonx 10 to 15% of abortions occur with married women. I get it wouldn't be the preferred method of BC in a marraige, but since abstinence is the only sure way to not to get pregnant, would withholding sex be an acceptable form of BC for either spouse to use if they didn't want a baby?

Not saying Opus Dei doesn't have problems -- it does. But we have a different point: being the only Personal Prelature has not prevented "The Work" from being disassembled by the Vatican in the past pontificate, and still feel under siege in this one. This is one of the reasons why those advocating a similar structure for the SSPX should think twice: HOW can we convince the SSPX to take up a structure after what happened with basically everyone under Francis (including those with long autonomous structures, such as the Order of Malta)? In our opinion, the vagaries and violence of Francis destroyed trust in the Holy See for generations.
Diane Montagna@dianemontagna

Pope Leo XIV today received in private audience London-based financial journalist Gareth Gore, author of the 2024 “exposé” on Opus Dei, “Opus: dark money, a secretive cult, and its mission to remake our world.” Gore, who has called Opus Dei an “abusive cult,” has in the last year written several articles on the organization for the progressive-leaning National Catholic Reporter and appeared on numerous podcasts to promote the book. In a response issued shortly after the book’s release, Opus Dei said Gore’s work “gives a false picture of Opus Dei based on distorted facts, conspiracy theories and outright lies.” Pope Leo XIV has met with Opus Dei leadership twice since his election (in May 2025 & Feb 2026) to discuss the ongoing revision of their statutes, a process that began under Pope Francis. @HolySeePress spokesman Matteo Bruni has not yet responded to questions regarding Pope Leo’s meeting today with the British journalist.

@ravenousreader The concept is good, but having to use a smartphone app seems counter-productive. Which also seems like a grift, with the monthly subscription or whatever. The cheesy meditations written by randos seem unecessary when we could just use the ones from the Divine Office.

Men will ask my husband to do exodus 90 and then look down (I don’t have better phrasing. Sometimes the are just disappointed) at him for saying “no”. But like we live an ascetic life already. He is good and doesn’t say anything to justify himself, but it’s so frustrating. When he is frustrated he will say something rude like “I hate exodus 90” he doesn’t it’s just that he did it more than once starting 11 years ago leading us to be able to live off grid for an extended period of time 5 years ago. He is just over it. He isn’t less than and neither are you. Yall are in different “seasons”. Normalize being okay with that.

We started as wanderers, with no possessions but stone tools and our minds, and no understanding of anything that lay beyond our immediate senses. We have travelled so far, learned so much, and built so much, in only a very short time. We will learn and build so much more, and travel far beyond the stars we see with our naked eyes at night. What great wonders will our children yet see? What will they come to know?

@eigenrobot I don't regret it, there's more to life than Lifetime Earnings. The research was fun. I met my wife. The PhD credential was critical, at least at that time, in getting an ML job with zero industry experience.

Building Catholic Men | Husbands | Fathers
Imagine a Retreat for Catholic men in which we: — Pray the Liturgy of the Hours — Celebrate the Holy Mass daily — Read/Discuss through the Cardinal and Theological virtues around a bonfire — Strength Train & Hike — Eat healthy food (Meat, veggies, potatoes) — Get good sleep The goal being: to return to our families refreshed and strengthened physically, mentally, and spiritually as husbands and fathers. Is this something you’d be interested in?

My husband singlehandedly architected, wrote and supported a program that made his (small, less than 50 people) company $7.8 million dollars last year while also serving as the development manager because the guy quit with no notice and they proudly announced this and rewarded him with ~3% of his salary as a bonus (less than $10k after taxes). He is so mad he's applying with their two competitors now. He's the only one that really gets how the software integrates with all the other stuff they do because they keep letting developers go and not replacing them and won't let him cross train anyone else on the software. Gonna be a bad time for them once he's gone. I think skipping the announcement and bonus would have been better than this route, he had no idea they made that much off of him.

@TheMindScourge This is just not true. For most of our babies I've been better able to comfort them ( when they're not hungry for milk) than Mom. I guess some dads don't have the same connection with their babies but it's not universal

I’ve had 4 newborns and, fundamentally, newborns have zero interest in their fathers. They just don’t. They are entirely fixated on their mother. They know her from being in the womb. They know how she sounds, smells, the rhythm of her heartbeat. The father is a stranger by comparison. They don’t know you. So when you hand off the baby to the dad, you might as well be giving the baby to a random person on the street for all the baby knows The dad’s role is the support the mother however possible. But you cannot get the baby to care about the father for several months at a bare minimum. Some dads take this personally. They think they have to do something. But there’s nothing to do. It just isn’t about you A great example of this is skin to skin contact: fathers can warm their baby against their chest, but also overheat them, as the heating is unidirectional and there’s no feedback Whereas with the mother, the thermoregulation is bidirectional. Her chest can warm up to 2 degree C or cool up to 1 degree C to thermoregulate the baby
Romy@Romy_Holland

fiancé was up half the night with the baby, who was inconsolable for much of it. this morning i heard him thru earplugs and 2 closed doors and went in, and the instant i took him he stopped crying. i soothed him for a few minutes and handed him back, and he immediately started screaming again despite fiancé doing everything identically to me. we are generally pretty equal in how much time we spend taking care of the baby, so it’s not like the baby’s more familiar with me. it’s nice to have this superpower but also i do not want the related responsibilities.

Had dinner last night with a bunch of hard-tech founders from El Segundo. Really inspiring stuff TBH. They're building hypersonic missiles, autonomous fishing vessels, nuclear power plants, drones to maintain undersea pipes and cables, early detection sonar systems, etc. Made me more bullish on America. Many of them in their 20's, already married with bunch of kids, and surprisingly experienced managers/leaders for their age.
