Most of you don’t know who she is, but she’s important. Her name is Latasha Harlins. In 1991, at the ripe age of 15, Latasha went to her local Korean owned food mart and never made it out. The store owner’s wife, Soon Ja Du, mistook her for trying to steaI a bottle of orange juice and a minor struggle ensued. Du grabbed Latasha and ended up getting pushed to the ground. Du then went and got her gun and pointed it at Latasha. Latasha bends down, picks up the orange juice, and places it on the counter. As Latasha had walked away to leave the store, Du shơt Latasha in the back of the head at a 3 foot distance, kiIIing her immediately. Du tried to claim self-defense, but there were 2 eyewitnesses, and the store’s security camera showed otherwise. The jury convicted Du and advised the judge to go with the maximum sentence of 16 years. Du walked away with 400 hours of community service, 5 years probation, and a $500 fine, as the judge said, although Mrs. D acted inappropriately, her actions were justified. Judge Joyce Karlin states that Mrs. Du was the victim, Latasha is the criminal and would be standing in front of her for assault on a store clerk had she not died. The slaughter of Latasha Harlins is one of the major factors in the initiating of the LA Riots. We only hear about Rodney King, but she is the original #SayHerName. Tupac had an affinity for Latasha and mentioned her name in several songs as well as dedicated the iconic song “Keep Ya Head Up” to Latasha. So today we say Latasha Harlins, you’re a pillar baby girl, whether they realize or not. And today, someone heard ya story❤️

THE SEX LIVES OF BRAZILIANS 🇧🇷 Common stereotype about Brazil is that they are obsessed with sex. People are obsessed with sex everywhere you go of course (is normally impossible to scroll the X feed without some kind of softporn appearing) but Brazil how to put it… you know it’s like they say the Inuits have over 50 words for snow - in the same way Brazil has a lot of words for sex and relationships. Country has a reputation to effect of everybody there has the same level of sexual self-restraint as an average gay man, I don’t think this is quite true but it probably is true that there is at least a subset of hyper-promiscuous Brazilians and then importantly here that some of their behaviour is attributable to aspects of Brazilian culture. Qualifier is obviously incel culture and its variants exists in Brazil too but there is nonetheless (seems to me) an important kind of hyper-liberalness in Brazilian mores Can’t say why exactly could be a few reasons, could be the special, open nature of lusotropical society, could be the average IQ of the country, could be less social stigmas, could be the weather could be all or none of the above. Brazilian once mentioned to me offhandedly that politicians in Brasilia were known for ‘having a lot of sex parties’. Most people don't realize this yet, but commonly using gender-neutral words like "partner", "adult", and "parent" is contributing to feminist and gender egalitarian ways of thinking. I pointed out that a man who provides for his family (like JD Vance) shouldn't be changing diapers on a daily basis. So many people replied with comments like "he's just being an adult, doing his job as a parent. You're just jealous that your partner doesn't pitch in more" NO, he's behaving like a woman/wife/mother. A father's proper role is to lead, provide for, and protect his wife and children. Cooking, cleaning the house, and doing routine childcare tasks like diapers changes is the role of a mother. Men and women are very different. We aren't interchangeable, and we shouldn't pretend otherwise by using gender neutral terms.

Guys, I’m an idiot. All this time I’ve spent trying not to die, I had toxic turf in my backyard. Artificial turf contains crumb rubber infill made from recycled tires, which leaches chemicals including PFAS, heavy metals, and polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons. These compounds are linked to hormone disruption, carcinogenicity, and systemic inflammation. I don’t know how I missed it. It makes me question my basic competence in life. What gets me is that I try so hard to survey the world of potential idiocy. Then I find out there’s a monument to idiocy sitting right in front of my face that I was blind to. I’m removing the turf, yet I’m still stuck with this seemingly unsolvable problem of how to not be an idiot.
