A lot of the $20/mo software is bought for 1 feature. People replicate the one feature they want in 2 hrs and then move on. I have a notion-like interface connected directly to my data... without needing an API connection and gaining productivity. The subs cost replacement is just a side benefit. At the company scale that buys seats, I would estimate that 1/3 of the seats paid per month have touched the software more than once, but they need to keep paying just to access the documents. That's the other side of the incentive; a large number of seats-sold software paired with low use isn't a good model for customers. And suddenly, you have a 3k-5k-per-month bill for 2-3 heavy users (the bill should be $200 if billed for actual usage). 5k per month is a lot of incentives and real savings, even with the maintenance accounted for.

@DavidGQuaid @LarsLofgren @gaganghotra_ @edwardeachday We won't like this, but there might be a conflict with the scaling AI projects and scaling compute for search processing. In an ideal world, Google would be realistic about where the $ is coming from, but in the current environment, "let's do X later" might be the default.

@tomfgoodwin Why? A year ago, I couldn’t overcome consistency issues. The current models make roughly an equal number of mistakes as my actual operators. I do the exact same QC process but my turn time got cut in half.

The thinking that because LLM's can do tasks, not jobs, that the solution is AGENTS, because agents can do many tasks, is very flawed. It's sort of magical thinking, blockchain fixes this, DAO's will sort this, it will be resolved by Web3, it's just not how the world works

The people most excited about AI replacing SEO strategy have never actually had to defend a strategy to a client. AI is a tool. Judgment is the product.

After 20+ years in SEO — buying agencies, selling agencies, building Traffic Think Tank, scaling Semrush’s owned media to 8 figures — here’s what I know about AI SEO that most won’t say:

@anothercohen Turns out the demand is still FAR FAR FAR bigger than the supply, even with agentic coding.

The easiest job in tech is Head of Growth at a consumer company with PMF. I did it at Rappi and thought I was a genius. Everything you try works. Tweak onboarding → conversion jumps. Unlock referrals → growth explodes. Turn on paid → infinite scale. And if something fails… it was an “experiment.” But that’s a fallacy. It’s like losing weight on GLP-1 and thinking you mastered discipline. Because when you become a founder, you realize the only hard growth problem is building a product people actually want. I’m a growth person, but I have infinitely more admiration for 0→1 product people than 1→100 growth people.

If your point of view on a problem is wrong, all the solutions, as efficiently produced as they can be, will not solve the problem. Be curious about your point of view.

I have more bad news for the "people in the trades won't use Claude Code" mafia. You are so wrong.. but maybe you were right a year ago! This morning I had calls with 3 different people in the trades building bespoke software with Claude Code. And I know the mafia will say "but it can't scale." Does it matter? It is saving their companies time, money and resources. They are uniquely and absurdly qualified to build these tools because they have each spent decades solving these problems by hand. I don't care how much you know about code or how good of an engineer you are. You could never build what they are building. You don't have the domain expertise. But now they have yours.

🇨🇦 Engineers behind AI were educated in Ontario OpenAI: Co-Founder Ilya Sutskever (UofT) xAI: Co-founders Elon Musk (Queen's), Zhang Guodong (UofT) and Zihang Dai (UofT) In 10 years we'll all agree failing to attract them to build in Ontario is our biggest policy failure ever.

@GMDanTO Comparing the normalized to the real is strange; the normalized in the 90s was much higher. Still 2+ years of getting worse ahead (and maybe more if AI...) if we don't react.

5 minutes ago, @karpathy just dropped karpathy/jobs! he scraped every job in the US economy (342 occupations from BLS), scored each one's AI exposure 0-10 using an LLM, and visualized it as a treemap. if your whole job happens on a screen you're cooked. average score across all jobs is 5.3/10. software devs: 8-9. roofers: 0-1. medical transcriptionists: 10/10 💀 karpathy.ai/jobs
