Since May 1, police have encircled 1,000 rural workers on lands designated for the Maria da Glória agrarian reform settlement project by Brazil’s federal land reform agency. The situation is tense, with a risk of violence and “serious human rights violations,” according to federal prosecutors. This video shows the moments before the arrest of three members of the Landless Workers’ Movement (MST) on Tuesday, May 5, as they traveled in a convoy to deliver supplies to the area where rural workers are encamped. I barely recognized the journalist Ali al-Samoudi when I saw him this week. He had been imprisoned by Israel — without charge and without a trial — for a year, during which time he lost half his body weight. He is one of 105 Palestinian journalists who have been imprisoned by Israel since October 7, 2023 — most without charge, according to @pressfreedom.

Amal Khalil was born in 1984 in a village under Israeli occupation in southern Lebanon. She spent twenty years reporting for Al Akhbar newspaper. She said journalism was resistance by other means. This interview with her was published three months ago. thepublicsource.org/amal-khalil-mi…

Our colleague Amal Khalil, a brave reporter who has been covering Israeli attacks on Lebanon for the past years was targeted along another colleague Zeinab Faraj while doing their job in south Lebanon. Emergency services succeeded in rescuing Zeinab with injuries along with two casualties. Amal is still under rubble, the Red Cross tried to get closer, yet another Israeli attack pushed them back.

@ConsumerReports @gijn 4/ Special shoutout to key organizations with helplines & security teams that help journalists be safer like @RSF_inter & @accessnow CONTACT INFO: RSF Digital Security Lab: resources.rsf.org/digital-securi… AccessNow Helpline: accessnow.org/help/

The IDF took what appears to be unprecedented action against the battalion involved in my team's assault & detention. In many ways, that's due to our position as US journalists. In too many cases involving Palestinian journalists & civilians, we've seen a lack of accountability.
