When supervision takes a one-size-fits-none approach, we are all less safe. Right now, federal probation officers are working within a system that has tripled in size over the last few decades, while resources haven’t kept pace. That means individuals who pose a greater risk to public safety are falling through the cracks. Some people have commented on the large difference in the National Guard and active duty call up today in L.A. (2,000) vs. in 1992 for the L.A. Riots (10,000, I was one as a captain). Here's the reason: the looting, arson, and rioting that occurred in 1992 was widespread and opportunistic. Today, the violence is centered on preventing federal law enforcement from doing its job - especially in the face of largely uncooperative or hostile state and local officials such as Gov. @GavinNewsom and Mayor @MayorOfLA.
