AF nerds would show up at the Miramar O’Club in pressed flight suits, ascots, hair impeccably quaffed, reeking of Polo. Navy Pilots would show up with mask marks on their face, hair tousled from the helmet, reeking of sweat, JP5, and Marlboros. Guess who got the chicks.

When I was a relatively new priest, I was asked to serve at a student parish. My first day there, a man came up to me and made a derogatory comment at me for wearing clerics. He then asked me if I was going to start having “cookie worship”. I asked him what he meant and he started complaining about Eucharistic adoration. Later in the day I showed up to my first staff meeting, and I learned he was the director of RCIA for the Parish.

The Catholic chaplain at my college believed the Eucharist was purely symbolic.

It leaves in place the deeply flawed ruling from the Supreme Court of Virginia, which overturned the results of a lawful election and erased the will of millions of Virginia voters.    Let’s be clear about what is happening. Donald Trump, Republican state legislatures, and conservative courts are systematically and unabashedly tilting power away from the people for Trump’s political gain. Just this past month in Louisiana, Tennessee, and South Carolina, they have redrawn their maps and diluted Black political representation because it threatens their hold on power.    This attack is not subtle. @GovernorVA Unfortunately, Virginia has the representation they deserve.

The Supreme Court of the United States has now joined the Supreme Court of Virginia in choosing to nullify an election and the votes of more than three million Virginians. These Virginians made their voices heard — casting their ballots in good faith to push back against a President who said he’s “entitled” to more seats in Congress before voters go to the polls. As Governor, I will make sure voters know when and how to cast their votes this year. Because our votes are how we choose the representation we deserve.

The Supreme Court has engaged in an ugly recidivism that has marked the fastest rollback of Black political rights since Reconstruction. 18 year terms limits on Justices now. Expand the court from 9 to 13 Justices now.

This is the proper name for a destroyer or a frigate, which are named for military heroes (like Miller), naval leaders, or naval pioneers. Aircraft carriers are named for presidents and high profile Navy champions. I’m all for naming a ship after Miller, but can we please get back to standardized ship names?
