Most people talk about public lands. Few explain how they actually work. High Country Observations breaks down: • Wildfire & suppression • Wildlife policy & management • The legal structure behind it all Field notes, threads, and deep dives ↓ @highcountryobservations" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">substack.com/@highcountryob… Stay Outside

The standard should be manufacturing products that are safe and effective for agriculture, wildlife, and the ecosystem as a whole, not immunity because they’re a known danger. #monsanto #glyphosate

The question isn’t what’s possible. It’s where the line is drawn.

The entire U.S. conservation system depends heavily on one group of people and it’s shrinking. Not general taxes, but hunters and anglers who fund it through licenses, tags, and excise taxes. When participation was stable, that worked. Now, more people use the resource than fund it. That gap won’t stay theoretical. #Conservation #PublicLands

We need science to plan, adapt, survive. Wildfire in the Bitterroot. Drought on the Hi-Line. USFS fire modelers: gone. USDA climate researchers: gone. They served the public. They were sacrificed for billionaire tax cuts. #Montana deserves better. #ReillyforMontana

@NebPubMediaNews Modern ag has simplified the landscape: fewer hedgerows, fewer insects, fewer places to nest. GLYPHOSATE. That’s where the decline shows up.

@TheNextSummitA1 One Fourteener was enough for me. Now, at 79 attempting to do another would be foolish.

Nobody wants to say this: Colorado 14er culture has a machismo problem. Pretending altitude doesn't affect you doesn't make you tough. It makes you a statistic.

The deeper you get into public-land policy, the less it becomes “use vs preservation” and the more it becomes competence vs short-termism. #Conservation
