Securing the homeland is an American imperative. As we begin our nation’s 250th year and approach the 25th anniversary of 9/11, we recommit ourselves to building a homeland that is safer, stronger, and better prepared for the threats of tomorrow.

We are forever grateful for the dedicated men and women at DHS who came to work every day without knowing when their next paycheck would come. Their commitment to the Homeland Security mission is deserving of immense thanks, and Homeland Republicans remain committed to ensuring that every DHS component has the resources and support they need to be successful. “As Chairman of the House Committee on Homeland Security, I’m glad that we fully funded TSA, FEMA, CISA, the Coast Guard, the Secret Service, and other vital DHS components so the men and women on the front lines can continue to keep our nation and its people safe. As a lifelong New Yorker and representative of a community forever marked by 9/11, I know how important that mission is.” Chairman @RepGarbarino and @HomelandGOP applaud end of the Democrat @DHSgov shutdown after more than 70 days. homeland.house.gov/2026/05/01/hom…

For two and a half months, the men and women of the Department of Homeland Security have served our country with unwavering dedication, without a consistent paycheck or proper funding.   This shutdown was not inevitable. At the start of the year, appropriators on both sides of the aisle reached a responsible funding agreement for DHS. However, Democrats walked away from that deal, forced this harmful shutdown, and insisted on maintaining it for months despite threats to our national security, federal workers' paychecks, and the President's life.   This week, House Republicans took decisive action, employing a twin-track approach, to restore funding to the majority of DHS, including TSA, FEMA, and the Coast Guard, while also laying the groundwork to fund Border Patrol and Immigration and Customs Enforcement. While this shutdown was incredibly disruptive, I am proud to finally put an end to this chaos. As a member of the Homeland Security Committee, ensuring the communities of Northeast Ohio and our nation are protected is my top priority.

DEMO DAY: Last week, members were given the opportunity to test the capabilities of jailbroken AI, revealing just how easy it is for bad actors to weaponize abliterated models. We thank the team of experts at @NCITE_COE for providing the demonstration and engaging in critical conversations around AI safety with members and staff.

After 76 days, the longest government shutdown in history is over. @DHSgov is back open, @ICEgov and @CBP will be funded through reconciliation (with NO Democrat votes) so liberals can’t play games with federal law enforcement funding. To be clear, this Democrat shutdown NEVER should have happened. To our great, patriotic employees who have continued to protect the homeland every single day without a guaranteed paycheck—thank you. President Trump and I are very grateful to be in the fight with you to Make America Safe Again.

For 76 days, Congressional Democrats forced a shutdown of the Department of Homeland Security as we face evolving  threats both at home and abroad.  As Chairman of the House Committee on Homeland Security, I’m glad that today we fully funded TSA, FEMA, CISA, the USCG, the USSS, and other vital components so the men and women on the front lines can get back to focusing on their mission. As a lifelong New Yorker and representative of a community forever marked by 9/11, I know how important that mission is. While the majority of the Department has now been funded, I remain committed to ensuring every component of DHS, including those tasked with border security, has the resources and oversight needed to succeed.

Chairmen @RepMoolenaar and @RepGarbarino are investigating how companies like Airbnb and Anysphere are using Chinese-developed AI models from firms like @deepseek_ai and @alibaba_cloud. These systems may be cheap, but they come with serious risks including exposure of Americans’ data, hidden vulnerabilities, and AI shaped by China's censorship regime. @ChinaSelect and @HomelandGOP are working to ensure U.S. innovation isn’t compromised by adversary-controlled technology. chinaselectcommittee.house.gov/media/press-re…

June is right around the corner, which means @FIFAWorldCup matches are about to kick off, with matches across 11 U.S. cities. The stakes could not be higher, yet Democrats have kept @DHSgov shut down despite continued Republican efforts to fully fund it. Special Events Task Force Chairman @RepMcCaul joined @AmericaRpts this week to discuss the importance of fortifying our security posture for major events, especially amid heightened threats: “We can't play around with this anymore. This is not a game.”

This week, I voted to fund ICE and CBP, and I hope to vote to fund the rest of DHS as soon as possible. It is absolutely appalling that Congressional Democrats have stood in the way of funding our Homeland Security agencies for over two months. ➡️As the President survived a third assassination attempt, the Secret Service was unfunded. ➡️As Tehran and Beijing increase their aggressive cyber intrusions, CISA remains unfunded. ➡️As dangerous, criminal, illegal aliens, let in under the Biden admin, roam our streets, ICE remains unfunded. ➡️As dangerous cartels continue to threaten our borders, CBP remains unfunded. ➡️As we embark on the biggest travel season of the year, TSA remains unfunded. ➡️As states like Tennessee continue recovery efforts from natural disasters, FEMA remains unfunded. ➡️As cartels increasingly use our waterways to traffic illicit drugs, the Coast Guard remains unfunded. ➡️As federal law enforcement agencies prepare for major events, FLETC remains unfunded. ➡️As terrorist organizations increase their threats against U.S. government entities, FPS remains unfunded. ➡️As the U.S. restores proper vetting for those coming into our country, USCIS remains unfunded. vanepps.house.gov/media/press-re…

Behind every critical DHS mission is its dedicated workforce, which is caught in the middle of Congressional Democrats’ DHS shutdown. “It is just absolutely disgusting that we see the Democrats continuing to play games with homeland security funding... What's not funded right now are the civilian staff.... Those are the folks that Democrats have taken hostage for the last 70 days.” More from @RepGabeEvans on the real-life impacts facing the men and women of @DHSgov:

Holding DHS funding hostage is nothing short of a dangerous political stunt. Democrats shouldn't have let our homeland security suffer for a single day, let alone more than seventy. House Republicans are committed to ending this lapse and fully funding every element of DHS.

Democrats have decided they don't want to be any part of funding the vital agencies that protect the HOMELAND, enforce immigration law, and keep the border secured and safe.   Events like Saturday night illustrate how foolish it is to be playing political games with Homeland Security.

It’s time to stop the politically charged rhetoric that is inciting this kind of violence against our political leaders. x.com/FoxNews/status…

NEW: House Speaker @MikeJohnson calls out Democrats for not doing enough to combat violent rhetoric online: BILL HEMMER: "Are you hearing enough from your Democratic colleagues on the tone that Senator Fetterman struck there?" JOHNSON: "No." "They've done the opposite. They've incited violence, in my view." "It's time to turn down the rhetoric. We've been seeing this over and over, and not use that kind of language. I hope that this will be a sobering reminder for everybody about that very important cause." @BillHemmer @AmericaNewsroom

More than 70 Days. That’s how long @DHSgov hasn’t been funded. This is unacceptable and completely inexcusable. DHS personnel reimbursements have been delayed for months. ➡️CISA is operating at 40% staffing. ➡️45,000 EMTs and Firefighters a week are missing critical emergency training. ➡️Over 780 TSA Officers have resigned. ➡️500+ Utility bills are unpaid for the U.S. Coast Guard. cbsnews.com/news/dhs-shutd…

Over 1,100 @TSA officers have quit since the DHS shutdown began - and temporary funding runs out on Saturday. Fewer officers. Longer lines. Greater risk. @DHSgov needs to be responsibly and comprehensively funded, NOW. bit.ly/4tGisPZ

China has a long record of targeting American innovation. AI is no exception. This is not just about model distillation. It's about industrial-scale efforts to illicitly extract advanced capabilities from U.S. AI systems and use them to accelerate CCP-aligned technology. America must secure AI development, support trusted U.S. alternatives, and strengthen public-private collaboration.
