For two and a half months, the men and women of the Department of Homeland Security have served our country with unwavering dedication, without a consistent paycheck or proper funding.   This shutdown was not inevitable. At the start of the year, appropriators on both sides of the aisle reached a responsible funding agreement for DHS. However, Democrats walked away from that deal, forced this harmful shutdown, and insisted on maintaining it for months despite threats to our national security, federal workers' paychecks, and the President's life.   This week, House Republicans took decisive action, employing a twin-track approach, to restore funding to the majority of DHS, including TSA, FEMA, and the Coast Guard, while also laying the groundwork to fund Border Patrol and Immigration and Customs Enforcement. While this shutdown was incredibly disruptive, I am proud to finally put an end to this chaos. As a member of the Homeland Security Committee, ensuring the communities of Northeast Ohio and our nation are protected is my top priority.

DEMO DAY: Last week, members were given the opportunity to test the capabilities of jailbroken AI, revealing just how easy it is for bad actors to weaponize abliterated models. We thank the team of experts at @NCITE_COE for providing the demonstration and engaging in critical conversations around AI safety with members and staff.

After 76 days, the longest government shutdown in history is over. @DHSgov is back open, @ICEgov and @CBP will be funded through reconciliation (with NO Democrat votes) so liberals can’t play games with federal law enforcement funding. To be clear, this Democrat shutdown NEVER should have happened. To our great, patriotic employees who have continued to protect the homeland every single day without a guaranteed paycheck—thank you. For 76 days, Congressional Democrats forced a shutdown of the Department of Homeland Security as we face evolving  threats both at home and abroad.  As Chairman of the House Committee on Homeland Security, I’m glad that today we fully funded TSA, FEMA, CISA, the USCG, the USSS, and other vital components so the men and women on the front lines can get back to focusing on their mission. The stakes could not be higher, yet Democrats have kept @DHSgov shut down despite continued Republican efforts to fully fund it. Special Events Task Force Chairman @RepMcCaul joined @AmericaRpts this week to discuss the importance of fortifying our security posture for major events, especially amid heightened threats: “We can't play around with this anymore. This week, I voted to fund ICE and CBP, and I hope to vote to fund the rest of DHS as soon as possible. Holding DHS funding hostage is nothing short of a dangerous political stunt. Democrats shouldn't have let our homeland security suffer for a single day, let alone more than seventy. House Republicans are committed to ending this lapse and fully funding every element of DHS.
