@I_BANTOR @attackdogX No we were preparing them to be the best test takers they could be and piling on hours of meaningless homework. A lot of the problems kids are having reading are not comprehension problems but vision problems. Their eyes are not trained for reading books.

Universities, faculty and staff are speaking out more and more about the increasing literacy crisis regarding incoming freshmen.
These students are struggling with understanding full sentences, basic reading comprehension, reading endurance, & writing effective essays.
This may seem odd when you look at graduation rates across various high schools in major cities. Graduation rates have actually increased. This gives the impression that our education system is improving.
However, what they don’t tell you is, they are lowering standards, eliminating various standardized tests, & passing students, even with failing grades.
Therefore; many students are entering their first year of college without basic education fundamentals, which are necessary in order to succeed.
