I turned pinball into Getting Over It. -Two buttons. -One vertical world shaped by the history of ideas. -No score. -No safety net. If you fall, you climb back up. It’s called Fallosophy. Would you keep climbing?

a lot of taylor swift's lyrics just suffer from clunky translation. they're actually quite haunting in the original Simlish

@bubbling_creek @tracewoodgrains Pulling births forward is surely also valuable? The kids can grow up sooner, contribute to tax + labor sooner, have their own kids sooner, etc. (This is independent of any additional children made possible by accelerating, as well)

@tracewoodgrains I still like the policy, but most of the 60% effect is probably pulling forward in time births that would've happened anyway, and when you add to that. And you also have to add the selection effect that looking for huge effects selects for 'something weird going on'

i feel like the drudgery of handcoding afforded you time to really chew on architecture, which now is a separate codeless experience. i’ll literally just sit there and think. sometimes to a little back and forth, couple documents. but just a whole lot of ponder

The youtube algorithm has gotten really bad. Noticeably bad. It's just grasping at straws now, I'll click into a video just to confirm it was bad, and then -- BAM -- that genre of video is now 1/3 of my homepage. Not helping that shorts are a huge part of the real estate.

The funny thing is that they didn't even try to hide that the entire big planet disappears from the background when you slightly turn camera to right and back :)

@mbateman @obversers If the underwear is stretchy enough, or the shorts are short enough, wouldn’t it work topologically? Down through the short leg, around the foot, back up through the same leg, then down the other leg to remove

@tyler_m_john @deanwball I think this is what they’re claiming justifies this? “Pretraining prior” = pure simulator, no assistant training yet, so the behavior must come from the role play of the fictional AI? Not sure it’s really justified, or if it will be relevant in future pretraining post-agentic

@mbateman You could do this experiment anyway you want. These kids were taught using site words and not phonics and wouldn’t be able to do it. They’ve never even seen a dictionary either. .
