@YIMBYLAND There is some scamming gas stations in downtown Houston. The gas there will be $3.90, when gas down the road was at $2.50.

Another wrinkle within the new Automated Ball-Strike Challenge System is that players must challenge before making any other movements This would have been ball four to Cavan Biggio, but he flipped his bat before tapping his head

Tough to watch. One thing I notice is the Runway Entrance Lights (REL) are illuminated when the truck starts moving. I did a post on RELs earlier. If the lights are on, you’re not supposed to move, even if you have clearance. They turn off before the jet crosses the taxiway. This is by design. I don’t know the exact logic there, but at SFO the Takeoff Hold Lights (THL) – which are part of the same Runway Status Light system – turn off before a jet landing or departing on a crossing runway has actually crossed your runway. You can get cleared for takeoff slightly before the jet has crossed your runway…which is fine, there is no risk you’ll hit them, as they are on the landing roll moving quickly & will be across your runway long before you get there. In any event, the red lights are going to play a part here & investigators will have questions. To see them, look in the middle of the runway early in the segment. Watch it a few times & you’ll notice there is a line of them extending across the runway.

🚨Chilling surveillance footage has emerged showing the moment Air Canada Flight AC8646 collided with a Port Authority fire truck on the runway at LaGuardia Airport (LGA) last night. Authorities have confirmed that both pilots were killed in the crash. Dozens of passengers, along with the two fire truck occupants, were injured and transported to nearby hospitals. The airport remains closed as the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) begins its investigation into the deadly incident. Incident Summary • Flight: Air Canada Express AC8646 (operated by Jazz Aviation) from Montreal • Casualties: Captain and First Officer died; 40+ others hurt • Cause: Preliminary information and ATC audio indicate the fire truck was responding to a separate “odor” emergency involving a United Airlines flight and had been cleared to cross the runway, leading to the collision

The Government of Spain demands the opening of Hormuz and the preservation of all the energy sites of the Middle East. We stand at a global tipping point. Further escalation could trigger a long-term energy crisis for all humanity. The world should not pay the consequences of this war.

Here’s a very simple example: All Clad has four lines of pans, D3, D5, Copper core and graphite. Figuring out what the hell is going on here would take forever in another lifetime. This prompt basically answered all my questions with a couple follow ups “I’d like to better understand the difference between the all clad cookware lines. I don’t really care about price. Help me think through and understand the pros and cons to copper core vs graphite vs their other options. What tradeoffs should I consider? How much do these materials impact performance and usage? Can a home cook even tell or is this ultimately just marketing? Please supplement your insights with real consumer feedback and be mindful of integrating paid advertising which is worthless to me” Plenty of other examples but that’s a concrete one where I was like “oh this is just so much easier to understand than it was beforehand”

One of the most positive changes from AI: I feel more informed as a consumer than I ever have Shopping is SO much better. The best products are easier to find, and marketing is easier to debunk I think AI will ultimately force more companies to compete on product quality

@YIMBYLAND I’m from Texas and own some oil well royalties, so I get it. The majority of Texans (especially the poorest) are not benefitting from elevated oil prices and all of them have to drive from 30+ miles away to their jobs

@Codie_Sanchez Honest question: How does SF lead in AI if both Google and Tesla are in Austin?

Why I’d live in Austin over SF any day: - Cost of living: 30-50% lower than SF, NY, LA - State income tax: 0% - A household earning $200k keeps $15-20k more per year in Texas - Oracle, Tesla, Apple, Google all moved or expanded here SF still leads in AI. But if you want to buy something, own something, and build wealth without giving it back to Uncle Sam… Austin is the most rational financial decision on the map right now. *Also fewer socialists so that’s a win.

@PLT_cheater @nihalmehta @EniacVC @TechNYC They *do* pay taxes, the biggest Lie ever sold to the American people is that rich people don’t pay taxes. I paid over $100k in taxes last year and I’m not a millionaire. Eventually you guys will run out of others people money and need some of your skin in the game

New York is about to make a massive mistake. The NY State Senate is advancing a proposal to decouple from federal QSBS (Section 1202) — the tax provision that lets startup founders exclude gains on qualifying exits. If this passes, founders would owe 10-13% in combined state and city tax on exits that are tax-free at the federal level and in nearly every other major tech state. Even worse: it's retroactive to January 1, 2025. This comes right as the federal government just expanded QSBS benefits and New Jersey moved to full conformity. New York wants to go in the opposite direction. As a seed investor in NYC who has backed hundreds of companies, I can tell you: founders are mobile. If New York becomes one of the most punitive states for startup exits, the best founders will simply build somewhere else — and the jobs, tax revenue, and innovation will follow. NYC has built something special over the last two decades. This proposal puts it all at risk for a short-sighted revenue grab. If you're a founder, investor, or anyone who cares about the NYC tech ecosystem — please sign the TechNYC open letter before Monday below 👇🏾👇🏾👇🏾 Keep building, NYC 🗽

The crux of the argument is; Why should tax payers, many whom don’t fly themselves, be responsible for those who do? In my opinion, airlines should be responsible for their own security. Americans shouldn’t have to work to pay for the flying privileges of others. That’s just wrong.

I’m shocked how oblivious people are We have no way to open the strait. Iran will keep it closed for months Gas is going over $8.00 SFO to LAX over $2,000 rt Anything that goes on a truck will increase exponentially and inflation will be 50%+ That’s the upside case If Iran is smart they demand all oil is priced in Yuan from now on Petrodollar countries have no choice but to agree or keep getting bombed by Iran US loses reserve currency Now suddenly our debt means something We can’t just print money anymore Either taxes go to 80% or we have to seriously cut the government We’ve never cut the government All major industries and rich people leave Economic downward spiral and likely World War 3 with China/Russia/Iran
Tanning Salon Don@TheSalonDon

The “Petrodollar” is a system enforced by the US military that makes oil priced in USD That means every country needs to exchange to USD and have USD reserves to buy oil Which allows the US to print trillions with minimal inflation If that is challenged. Your middle class life is over
