@Heccles94 Yes, truly petrifying stuff: people holding the national flag. Go have a lie‑down petal, you've had a tough day.

Petrifying displays of white supremacy. Since when did the UK get infected with christo-fascism? This isn’t the USA…

@jacksberriestv @danwootton @AngelaRayner @KarlTurnerMP The same Byline Times where the founding investigative journalist was done for phone hacking, misconduct in public office and perverting the course of justice when he worked at New Of The World? Then they did this hit-job which wasn't even true. Get a better news outlet.

I welcome HMRC’s conclusion, which has cleared me of any wrongdoing. I have been exonerated by HMRC of the accusation that I deliberately sought to avoid tax. When purchasing a home of my own with a mortgage, I did not own any other property and had no personal financial interest in the court-instructed trust set up to manage my son’s financial award. I was advised by experts that I should pay stamp duty at the standard rate. I set out to pay the correct amount of tax. I took reasonable care and acted in good faith, based on the expert advice I received, and HMRC has accepted this. I have always sought to act with integrity, and I believe politicians should be held to high standards - that is why I resigned from government and cooperated fully with HMRC.  I wanted to ensure that I paid every penny that I owed, and have done so. I am relieved that my family can now move on - and that I can get on with my job.

@AngelaRayner Saying HMRC “cleared me of any wrongdoing” is misleading when the outcome included paying back tax that should have been paid in the first place. And the timing of their announcement raises serious eyebrows too.

@UnleashedComedy I honestly can’t remember the last time I laughed that hard. Bobby Davro's still got it - pure comedy gold. He just kept going for nearly an hour without dropping the pace. Proper old‑school pro who’s adapted perfectly to today’s comedy scene.

Byline Times 🚩🚩🚩🚩
Clive Lewis MP@labourlewis

Last week’s election results showed just how fragmented the country is. Tonight I’ll be sitting down with my childhood friend Darren, now drawn to the populist right, for a live and honest discussion with @BylineTimes. In September he joined the “Unite the Kingdom” march in London. When I asked why, he said: “the government doesn’t listen to us” and “I want to feel proud of my country again.” That sense of being ignored runs across the political divide. The question is how the same frustration with a system that isn’t working for ordinary people can lead to such different political conclusions. The Green gains came from the usual prosperous, leafy white middle-class enclaves where the biggest weekly hardship is the Waitrose car park being full. They love Green policies but they’ll never actually feel the impact of them.
Zack Polanski@ZackPolanski

It's early yet, but for the Greens to be beating Labour in the popular vote in places like Reading is remarkable! We've gained seats across the country and an increase in our vote share almost everywhere we've stood. All over the UK people are voting to end Rip Off Britain.

@CharlieSansom Strange interview days before a crucial election Labour are widely expected to lose? Is there some kind of PR arrangement behind the scenes? Your own Substack talks about strategic comms, branding, messaging guidance so it’s hard not to wonder what the real motivation is here.

A few days ago I sat down with the Labour leader of Basildon Council for an in-depth interview about his plans for the town. Whilst it isn’t natural for me to vote for the rose, I am compelled to get behind regeneration for a town most people write off. Reform and the Conservatives seemingly have no plan whatsoever for the borough and that’s why I’m inclined to vote Labour locally on May 7th. It’s a pragmatic vote, and if I had the time I’d have likely stood for election myself. Alas, I did not. Instead, I had a conversation with @CllrCallaghan which you can watch on my YouTube channel at 6pm tonight. @CharlieSansom" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">YouTube.com/@CharlieSansom

People criticise VAR endlessly, but decisions like Peter Banks’ call on Bournemouth’s Marcos Senesi penalty show the system isn’t the problem - it’s the incompetence of the people operating it.

@c2c_Rail on the 11:09 Laindon to Fenchurch Street. Second day on the trot there's no aircon and we're all sweating up. Any chance you can ping the driver? It's unbearable.

@AIForEveryMind @RossKempsell He’s lucky this unfolded in a country that bends over backwards to avoid lethal force. Elsewhere, he’d have been shot long before pathetic armchair coppers like you started debating online about whether it's appropriate to kick a terrorist armed with a knife.

@Ladyjane223 @RossKempsell @richardpbacon Who exactly do you think you are, sat in the comfort of your armchair handing out critiques on how officers should deal with a violent man armed with a knife. Honestly, what makes you think you’re the authority here?

@telegram @Ofcom Ofcom are the government's stasi branch tasked with crushing free speech platforms (under the pretence of child protection to try and get people on side). Sinister little outfit holed-up in an unsuspecting grey building on the Southbank. Beware ☠️

Telegram categorically denies Ofcom’s accusations. Since 2018, Telegram has virtually eliminated the public spread of CSAM on its platform through world-class detection algorithms and cooperation with NGOs. We are surprised by this investigation and concerned that it may be part of a broader attack on online platforms that defend freedom of speech and the right to privacy. x.com/durov/status/2…

So the police turn up in riot gear to a peaceful protest in Epsom, following the rape of a young woman outside a church. They never did this for the Clapham looting. Never for the pro-Palestine/IRGC marches where people wear face masks. Two-tier policing once again.

There were more than 400 asylum hotels under the previous government – that number has been more than halved, with 11 more closing this week. Labour is bringing the asylum system under control.
