🚨 𝐌𝐞𝐬𝐬𝐚𝐠𝐞 𝐟𝐫𝐨𝐦 𝐀𝐦𝐡𝐚𝐫𝐚 𝐅𝐚𝐧𝐨 𝐍𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐥 𝐌𝐨𝐯𝐞𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 (𝐀𝐅𝐍𝐌) 𝐭𝐨 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐩𝐞𝐨𝐩𝐥𝐞 𝐨𝐟 𝐄𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐨𝐩𝐢𝐚 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐇𝐨𝐫𝐧 𝐨𝐟 𝐀𝐟𝐫𝐢𝐜𝐚 “Given the current reality facing our country, we do not believe there is any Ethiopian community that has not been subjected, openly or implicitly, to genocidal violence or an existential threat. Every people’s survival is at risk. Ethiopia stands on the edge of a cliff. Accordingly, the Fano struggle represents a decisive political solution not only for the survival of the Amhara people but also for the political salvation of other Ethiopian people. An Amhara victory is a victory for the Gurage, the Tigrayan, the Oromo, the Gumuz, the Afar, the Somali, the Wolayta, the Sidama, the Gamo, and other peoples as well. Therefore, all political groups and elites must stand together and struggle for a shared destiny, as remaining a bystander leads to sequential attacks and destruction. @AbiyAhmedAli is the sharp horn of the Horn of Africa, piercing everyone, drawing blood from all, and trampling the homes of the region’s peoples with both hands and feet. For this reason, removing the genocidal Abiy Ahmed regime requires cooperation not only among Ethiopians but also among regional forces. All collaborations aimed at removing this regime and stabilizing the region are fully legitimate. The peoples of the region desire peace and development, and they deserve it. Although the brutal regime’s divide-and-rule strategy of attacking and pitting groups against one another has provided it with temporary relief and breathing space, it is essential to recognize this reality, strengthen existing understandings around removing the regime through cooperation, and shorten the regime’s lifespan. For this, we call on all to use the additional capacity and opportunity created by Fano unity and to consolidate the understandings already seen regarding the necessity of anti-regime struggle, shifting from resisting a genocidal war to strategic offensive action, in order to remove the regime.”

No one in Ethiopia should suffer from hunger let alone famine. As if he is not yet satisfied by what he did to Tigray, @AbiyAhmedAli has cut the budget for the region and exacerbated the suffering of the people. The political drama is not punishing politicians but rather the poor. #Ethiopia: Widespread rights abuses in #Amhara region as federal forces move to battle Fano insurgency – the Guardian reveals Federal forces committed abuses in Amhara region, including kidnappings, massacres, sexual violence and attacks on humanitarian personnel, in an attempt to quell the Fano insurgency in Ethiopia’s Amhara region, the Guardian newspaper said in its photographic report. It added that the situation is out of control, with more than 2 million people in urgent need of humanitarian assistance in a region that is also hosting refugees from the war in Sudan. According to the Guardian newspaper in its photographic report, the Ethiopian federal army is regularly accused of massacres, arbitrary arrests, sexual violence and drone attacks targeting civilians in Amhara. Civilians interviewed described losing relatives to drone strikes and shelling, further fueling anger at the central government. The report notes that while the Fano militia initially enjoyed broad community support, worsening insecurity and economic collapse are gradually undermining this trust, with some Fano groups increasingly accused of extorting civilians, particularly at checkpoints. Once allies of the federal government during the Tigray war, the Fano turned against Addis Abeba after the Pretoria Agreement and the federal decision to dismantle regional special forces, which many Amhara fighters perceived as a direct threat to their security. Thousands of former special forces personnel subsequently joined the Fano, creating a fragmented armed movement estimated at nearly 20,000 fighters. The Guardian says the Fano now control large rural areas of Amhara, while federal forces are largely confined to major towns, and both sides hold alternating areas of control as fighting intensifies. theguardian.com/artanddesign/2…

.@DCP_Haddadi While the pursuit of peace is commendable, the recently announced “agreement” between the Amhara Regional State and “AFPO” raises serious legitimacy concerns. The individual who signed on behalf of “AFPO,” Cap. Masresha Sete, had been formally expelled from the organization, rendering the process fundamentally invalid. It is equally troubling that the African Union proceeded without the due diligence required to identify such political maneuvering. By endorsing an arrangement made with an unauthorized figure, the AU risks a dereliction of its duty to uphold impartiality and avoid becoming a participant in the regime’s theatrics. AFPO’s recognized chairman, Eskinder Nega, did not authorize or endorse this agreement. Any credible peace process must engage legitimate leadership and avoid parallel deals that undermine public trust and long-term stability.

African Union Hails Landmark Peace Agreement in #Ethiopia, Welcomes Signing Between Amhara Region and FANO-AFPO. The African Union (AU) today witnessed and welcomed a significant step towards lasting peace in Ethiopia with the signing of a sustainable peace agreement between the Amhara National Regional State and the Amhara FANO Popular Organization (FANO-AFPO). The signing ceremony, held in Addis Ababa, was attended by H.E. Selma Malika Haddadi, Deputy Chairperson of the African Union Commission, who represented the continental body, and Mr. Mohamed Abdi Ware, Deputy Executive Secretary of the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD). In her statement at the event, the Deputy Chairperson @DCP_Haddadi commended the parties for their commitment to dialogue and peaceful resolution. She emphasized that this agreement represents a crucial milestone not only for Ethiopia but for the entire African continent. “Each peace agreement inches us closer to achieving our goal of Silencing the Guns in Africa,” stated H.E. Selma Malika Haddadi. “On behalf of the African Union, I congratulate the parties for reaching this important milestone. This achievement demonstrates the power of African-led solutions to African challenges”. The African Union reaffirms its unwavering commitment to supporting the implementation of this agreement and the broader peace in Ethiopia. Read @ au.int/en/pressreleas…
