@Cousin_M @Geeb1872 "The obstruction if you're shielding the ball is ok." Not to me it bloody isn't. If you don't want to play the ball, you're obstructing someone else who does. Stupid rule, they've just changed it - or theinterpretation - like they've allowed all the other forms of cheating.

@KC_LifeCoaching @Geeb1872 The obstruction if you're shielding the ball is ok. At that point it's good defending if you're able to withstand a little bit of contact and stay strong. Flopping to the floor as soon as you are touched, followed by grabbing the ball is where it loses all sportsmanship for me.

@TrevorB21504757 @BoBeB69 @Geeb1872 You're not missing anything, Lamal made the proactove move and controlled/played the ball with the top of his bicep BEFORE the kick, so no penalty. Unless they've stupidly changed the rules to make handball, using the arm to control a ball, legal - it wouldn't surprise me.

@BoBeB69 @KC_LifeCoaching @Geeb1872 As an aside, when Lamal got kicked last night by Digne, leading to the penalty, there was a brief discussion of handball. The ball hit the top of his arm, but the itv expert seemed to suggest that wouldn't be handball cos it was the wrong bit of the arm. What am i missing?

@Geeb1872 How’s it not given as obstruction? The balls going nowhere surely you can’t just shield it for no reason?

@SamRobertsComms Good lord, yes. 'Moronic' or 'brain-dead' doesn't even come close to this nonsense. It is an insight, though, into WHY Borthwick thinks* MS is a full back, if he's going for a bench split even more to forwards. Typical (former) forward, can only think in terms of forwards.

@KC_LifeCoaching @FMC_Rugby That’s your opinion, but others disagree. That’s the grey area in our laws. Ultimately it only matters what the match official team on the day thought, as the referee is the sole judge of fact and law during the game.

So once again it’s a brilliant bit of thought provoking innovation from the Boks. Absolutely loved the move at the time. Is the verdict that it’s legal though? Sorry to be the bore but theoretically Cobus could just carry him all the way and a tackle on him would be dangerous

@BBCSportScot The ref was terrible all game. Aloud SA to lie in the ruck and slow the ball down but soon as Scotland done it it was a penalty.

@FMC_Rugby Only issue is they got a line break because the Scottish players rightly said " you can't just carry a guy towards the try line". Not massive metres, but positionally very important.

@FMC_Rugby It depends whether you think he lowered the jumper as soon as he could (noting that he’s trying to recover after the jumper tips over)… If you think he lowered him as soon as he could safely do so, play on. If you think he held him up unnecessarily, then it’s a free kick.

@FMC_Rugby This was pretty obviously out of spirit of the game but nothing ref could do if there's no law for it yet. But clearly Scotland letting him bring the guy down safely - and him taking advantage of that is out of order. He's got a cheek. Do we want safety, or not?!

@PompeyPedro After he doesn't pass Haaland could do more to give him an angle than just stand still and let himself be unavailable as defenders got back to him. I thought he was a digrace the way he wouldn't do anything else for his team mates. There's conserving energy and then there's that!

Anyone who has ever played or watched ball beyond World Cup games knows that this pass was never on for a left footer, or at least had a pretty low chance of success. Sørloth is getting pelters online but Stones got his positioning absolutely perfect.

@QuinsFOTS Nothing you've said there claims anything positive about him. Yes, he played 15 and 9. So what? Liz Truss was Foreign Secretary then PM. MS as a full back is ridiculous. I've got packets of crisps in my cupboard that weigh more than him.

@EnglandRugby I'll be in the minority, I know, but I thought that was really dull. A very poor 14-man Fiji performance, sadly. It was a very meh afternoon. Borthwick is such an uninspiring coach.

@RugbyInsideLine Flatman really disappoints, in that he just sucks up tot he system, wheter that be this, or ad breaks during scrums, or anything else. It's, well, yeah, it's disappointing.

🌹 Flatman really missing the point on Comms about BJVR. No-one doubting his quality and that on that basis he is there on merit. It's about the spirit of international rugby - is this what it SHOULD be?

@EngRugbyDebate No, Slade has never been appropriate for an internaitonal centre, because they need firepower - as you say; big enough to go through, or quick enough to go round. That goes for 12 and 13; a passing 12 is great, but most players should be able to do that; get somebody with both.

I understand but do not agree with the recall of Slade. I’ve read a lot about his form and fantastic season for Exeter. And it was. But from what I saw, that was about embodying their spirit, clutch kicking time after time and excellent link play. I didn’t see much to suggest he’ll be anymore of a running threat either carrying, cutting lines or outside breaking than in previous caps. So I don’t see how it will be anymore of a functioning midfield than in those fixtures? This isn’t meant to be singling him out - the guy is a legend - it’s just about the requirements of a centre partnership when you’re not blessed with any elite 12s. For me if your 13 can’t go outside the defence (or through it) the job of the other defenders gets so much easier. Our onus on Feyi-Waboso and Freeman to make things happen is massive in this line up. Potentially ok for Fiji and Argentina. Will not be against the best defences.
