SpaceX says it aims to deploy up to 1 million orbital satellite data centers in space to provide enough compute power for large-scale AI inference and training. • Satellites will get constant power in space. • No batteries are needed. • No glass framing required, which makes the solar panels cheaper to produce. • Passive Radiative cooling Elon says space will be the lowest-cost place to put AI within 3 years.

Happening today! Nairobi City County launches its Mental Health Strategic Action Plan 2025–2030, which focuses on inclusive, community-centered mental health care and services. The plan outlines five strategic objectives to transform mental health care and well-being for all residents: ✅ Strengthening leadership coordination and intersectoral governance ✅ Promoting culturally sensitive mental health awareness and substance use prevention. ✅ Integrating mental health into primary healthcare systems. ✅ Expanding mental health infrastructure and workforce capacity. ✅ Improving mental health information systems, research, and evidence-based planning The latter aligns with APHRC’s efforts towards generating evidence that informs inclusive, community-driven mental health interventions, especially in urban informal settlements. By supporting integrated care, culturally responsive services, and data-driven planning, the Center aims to enhance mental well-being as a fundamental component of public health. #FromPolicyToAction #WeAreAfrica #APHRCResearch @LVCTKe @SHFCO @KRC @IJM @sida @CKyobutungi @CwKabiru @amveyange @MangwanaVJ @isabelmutuku1 @aiajayi @lamechmutava @Wekesah

The KIX-SEEDS Annual General Meeting kicked off in Ouagadougou yesterday with an opening ceremony that set the tone for three days of reflection and collaboration. From university leaders to government officials and researchers, the message was clear: Data is not merely a collection of numbers; it is the foundation for building more innovative, more inclusive, and transformative education systems that leave no learner behind. 🔹 Represented by Prof. Nicolas Méda, Director of ISSP, Prof. Jean-François Kobiané, President of Université Joseph Ki-Zerbo, reminded participants of the role of academia in driving cutting-edge data practices 🔹 #IamAPHRC’s Director of Programs-Research, Dr. Andre Pascal Kengne, delivered a compelling keynote on how strong data systems enable evidence-informed decisions across Africa and their role in shaping responsive education policies. Stay tuned as we explore how data is being harnessed to transform education across the region. #WeAreAfrica #APHRCResearch @GPforEducation @ESEA2023 @hisp_uganda @dhis_2 @DKadengye @MDMwanga @Espira15 @florahpeace @hope_shete @agnes_kiragga @mngware @lamechmutava @ChristineGer22 @TayibFall @dia_diama

we are launching a new thing today—images in chatgpt! two things to say about it: 1. it's an incredible technology/product. i remember seeing some of the first images come out of this model and having a hard time they were really made by AI. we think people will love it, and we are excited to see the resulting creativity. congrats to our researchers @gabeeegoooh @prafdhar @ajabri @eliza_luth @kenjihata @dmed256 2. this represents a new high-water mark for us in allowing creative freedom. people are going to create some really amazing stuff and some stuff that may offend people; what we'd like to aim for is that the tool doesn't create offensive stuff unless you want it to, in which case within reason it does. as we talk about in our model spec, we think putting this intellectual freedom and control in the hands of users is the right thing to do, but we will observe how it goes and listen to society. we think respecting the very wide bounds society will eventually choose to set for AI is the right thing to do, and increasingly important as we get closer to AGI. thanks in advance for the understanding as we work through this.

Meet #IamAPHRC's Catalyze Impact Initiative team at the Africa Health Agenda International Conference, #AHAIC2025, as we explore conversations shaping Africa’s research. The Catalyze Impact Initiative responds to the critical need for increased African leadership in the continent’s research and development (R&D). Led by APHRC and supported by the Gates Foundation, this Initiative aims to empower African researchers, institutions, policymakers, and the broader research ecosystem to shape research agendas and policies. It also seeks to address several key challenges that have long hindered Africa’s research landscape by fostering African-led research and translating it into policies. #APHRCResearch #WeAreAfrica @NebaAlphonse @Ag_economist @gaye01 @Kendi_Nkonge @SN_Eugenia @patrickamboka @lamechmutava @DrOpiyoOwili @hiramsee @KKamenju @doris_omao @DMdiarafa @amveyange @CKyobutungi

Many African universities struggle with outdated or non-functional websites, which limit the visibility of their research. To address this, #IamAPHRC’s @SN_Eugenia, @lamechmutava and @_iswaema are in Ethiopia conducting website optimization training for over 25 Ethiopian Universities and research institutions, designed to boost their digital presence. By strengthening their online presence, these institutions can showcase their incredible work better and ensure their research reaches a broader audience. #WeAreAfrica #APHRCResearch @gatesfoundation @ckyobutungi @GichuruJw @amveyange @NebaAlphonse @gaye01 @patrickamboka @Ag_economist @DrOpiyoOwili @hiramsee @KKamenju @benmacondiek @DMdiarafa
