Every child, everywhere, deserves to see their fifth birthday. Millions of children are alive today because of vaccines, skilled birth attendants, strengthened health systems and the commitment of families and communities. But today, those gains are at risk of being reversed.

In 2025, funds unlocked through the innovative financing partnership between @EIB, @EU_Commission, and @gatesfoundation helped secure 600M+ oral polio vaccine doses for 30+ countries, strengthening immunization systems and expanding essential health services. #EndPolio

Ms. Ayesha Raza Farooq, Prime Minister’s Focal Person for Polio Eradication, met with Chief Secretary Sindh, Syed Asif Hyder Shah, along with Mr. Muhammad Anwar ul Haq, National Coordinator NEOC, and the provincial EOC Coordinator in Karachi, following the recent confirmation of a polio case in the province. The meeting reviewed the ongoing emergency response and coordination efforts aimed at strengthening vaccination coverage in high-risk and affected districts. Discussions focused on improving the quality of upcoming vaccination campaigns, addressing missed children, and ensuring effective coordination between provincial authorities and district administrations. Reaffirming the government’s commitment to polio eradication, Ms. Ayesha emphasized the importance of coordinated action, accountability, and sustained field operations to ensure that every child is reached and protected from the lifelong disability caused by poliovirus. #EndPolioNow

Gender equality is essential to ending polio. In Mozambique, the polio program is launching gender‑responsive approaches, from educating women to engaging fathers, so families can protect every child. This #IWD2026, we celebrate the women driving this progress.

It was a pleasure to participate earlier this week in a virtual webinar organized by the Global Polio Eradication Initiative recognizing the critical role women play in eradication efforts. As a Gender Champion for the Global Polio Eradication Initiative, I underscored how women power the fight to end polio — from labs to the frontlines of vaccination. As we enter the final stretch to #EndPolio, I call on partners, decision-makers and the global polio workforce to do all they can to remove barriers, invest in safe and equitable workplaces and strengthen women’s leadership.
