NOW: DC Police are on scene of a shooting on the 5300 block of Wisconsin Ave NW in Friendship Heights/Washington DC. The victim has been taken to the hospital by DC Fire & EMS. No suspect information is available; other details remain limited at this hour... #DCCrime

🚨 Endorsement Alert 🚨 I’m proud to have the endorsement of At-Large Councilmember Anita Bonds, a steadfast leader who has spent her career fighting for DC residents too often left behind. Together, we’ll keep fighting and delivering for our seniors, returning citizens and marginalized communties across all eight wards.

Lying to win an election. @DCLabor and @DCNurses1 endorsed @Janeese4DC, NOT @kenyanmcduffie. And @IAFF36 has not endorsed.

On @wamu885’s @politicshour, @CMFrumin said “I’m not there,” on allowing matter of right 4-story apt bldgs in single family neighborhoods as @OPinDC is proposing. @maustermuhle, @Meagan_Flynn @jennygathright @WBJAlex @SegravesNBC4

Interesting: Instead of prosecuting parents under the D.C. law related to curfew (with a $500 fine as a penalty), the U.S. Attorney for D.C. will use the city's law against contributing to the delinquency of a minor. code.dccouncil.gov/us/dc/council/…

Citywide, 41 ANC commissioners have donated to Miguel The people who are most politically and socially engaged in their neighborhoods overwhelmingly back Miguel. It’s that kind of local support that helps a CM turn progressive ideas into action

NOW: U.S. Attorney Jeanine Pirro will prosecute parents whose children are found in violation of the curfew. Pirro railed against the D.C. Council for repeatedly deferring a vote on extending the emergency youth curfew in light of the "teen takeovers." She said she plans to charge parents under a section of the D.C. Code that deals with "contributing to the delinquency of a minor." “As we grapple with this problem, there is one area that hasn’t been discussed: parental involvement has been a noted gap in any discussion. And I am here to say as the United States Attorney in the District of Columbia that ends today."

People jumping to say DC isn’t NYC are avoiding the point. We don’t have state funding, but we can pass a BAT or increase capital gains tax, reassess tax abatements & agency overspending, bring back streateries, etc, before cutting basic needs like paid leave, childcare, ERAP
