Had the honor of interviewing Bill Tai @KiteVC about the future of tech and what he looks for in startup founders! “It’s really the intersection of a big market that’s about to go through a structural change and a certain personality type.” He quoted an example from @canva where he went to Perth, Australia and met Melanie Perkins @MelanieCanva who was teaching Adobe classes on the side and shared her vision of how she wanted to remake the field of design. In 2010, he saw that software was moving to the cloud and seized this opportunity. In 3 years, he matched her with her CTO, they built and scaled the product, and fast forward…they are now making $200M/month in revenue! “Give me someone who is solving a problem viscerally in a very big way.” The second example was @Zoom that Bill named! Riding the wave of cloud and mobile and changing the economics of building a product that is more scalable and lower cost. Now we can’t imagine living without Zoom!
