Today CHITREST obtained a High Court order directing Chitungwiza Municipality and Ministry of Local Government to stop the ongoing demolitions. We have insisted that these demolitions are illegal and the High Court agrees. The livelihoods of poor people must be protected.

Chitungwiza Municipality together with ZRP have started demolishing informal traders' workshops and vending stalls in Chitungwiza. These demolitions are illegal because they are not supported by a court order as required by law. This illegality must not be allowed to continue.
