@2024dion @pkfwywb The state of Missouri literally requires a certain percentage of the city's budget go to cops. Here is a report from 2020 showing how high funding was then. Since then, it's jumped a LOT, thanks to new state requirements. vera.org/publications/w…

@dnvr_is_burning @maxdubler you don’t live in kansas city 1) free busses didn’t fail, the funding was being completely mismanaged and used by the city for road repair, stoplight repair, etc even tho it was to be used on fair. 2) we didn’t “do city grocery stores”, the city leased a building. literally it.

Iowa City’s bus system does not operate *at all* on Sundays or holidays.

@maxdubler Kansas City's free bus service does, and also boasts a free now-almost-5-mile-long streetcar line to go with it. Granted, the city's refusal to raise taxes to pay for it means that it may soon be coming to an end, but it has been nice while it lasted.

@kenklippenstein Hi, Kansas Citian here. We literally already have free buses and community-owned grocery stores. Unfortunately, both are now threatened due to funding cuts b/c Missouri Republicans & KC Democrats won't even try to tax the rich.

AOC: He had to defeat a Republican and the old guard of the Democratic party at the same time. He was fighting a war on two fronts and not just one. And he still won resoundingly. And I think the message that that sends is that the Democratic Party cannot last much longer by denying the future, by trying to undercut our young, by trying to undercut a next generation of diverse and upcoming Democrats that our actual electorate and voters support.

@DaemonOneil @Acyn @AOC Turnout was the highest in a mayoral election since the 1960s. Like, literally the biggest turnout in a NYC Mayor's race in modern history. He got people to vote in a municipal election. (!) Plenty may have come out against him, but plenty came out for him, too.
