AN APOLOGY I was seriously wrong and insensitive in one of the several media appearances I made yesterday in reaction to the death of Ann Widdecombe. I got the timing and tone of my initial word portrait of her wrong. Of course I shared, and share, the horror at her murder and the respect for her remarkable and feisty political career. I also know that many people loved her for her subsequent showbiz stardom. Her untimely death is a horrible thing. My mistaken view was that in the context of rolling news coverage, I was being asked to contribute as an obituarist who has known her and interacted with her since the 1980s. This approach was premature. At no point was I expressing my personal feelings about her, that's not what I do. I was discussing her life in the round, based on the record of known facts and what she has said about herself, along with some recollections of our personal interactions. My choice of words on the spur of the moment was clumsy. I did not intend to offend though obviously I did.

The @GNRailUK service has been awful the last month. I have claimed ‘Delay Repay’ for all the issues faced . They have started automatically rejecting my claims when they know how bad their service has been. Disgusting. @DanielZeichner @TransportFocus

You could try the spelling errors, but it’s hard to find where to start with this outpouring of lunacy.

On the Elizabeth Line i've noticed an increasing trend of people approaching staff on the barrier and simply being let through - basically fare evasion with consent. Sometimes they don't even speak just make a begging gesture! How is this fair to fare paying passengers?! @tfl

Another legitimate @GNRailUK delay claim rejected after 3 weeks of delays and cancellations. Yes I've submitted a high number of claims, it's because your service is shit. @jamesowild @transportfocus

Just tried boarding a flight to Spain. My passport runs out June 2027. Was refused boarding because apparently it ran out in 2026 according to new European rules😳🫤Can anyone explain this to me? I’m now stuck @Ryanair @ukhomeoffice - check your passports people. Who knew .

🚧Liverpool Street to Cheshunt🚧 Monday, 6 July 2026 to Thursday, 9 July 2026 In connection with track maintenance work taking place between Cambridge Heath and Cheshunt (via Tottenham Hale), West Anglia and Stansted Express services will be diverted between London Liverpool Street and Cheshunt, serving Seven Sisters instead of Tottenham Hale. Journey times will be extended several minutes as a result. This affects services between 23:20 on Wednesday/Thursday nights (00.50 on Tuesday/Wednesday Mornings) and 05:00 on Tuesday/Wednesday/Thursday/Friday mornings.

@swtrains_watch @SW_Help @Heidi_Labour You should always ask for a deadlock letter toallow you to take a rejected appeal to the ombudsman. Costs the train company money, time and effort. It also shows up in their performance figures.

SWR rejected 103,073 Delay Repay claims since nationalisation (up to late February 2026) @SW_Help Of those who appealed, 59.4% had their rejection overturned. Nearly 6 in 10. So why were they rejected the first time? 🧵👇 @Heidi_Labour

I hope this Lad is given the best legal advice available and a Go Fund me page is setup for him. The police shouldn’t be allowed to get away with this they are enforcing Two Tier Policing across the UK. Officers like this policewoman are a disgrace and very dangerous.

I can’t let this go unchallenged. That young man was, in my opinion and based on the video below, the clear victim of an assault. The video shows, for reasons that are entirely beyond my comprehension, the officer steaming directly into the victim. The officer made no effort to prevent the attack or apprehend the men who had just administered the violence. What I see in the video is the officer using speed and aggression at the moment of peak danger and confusion against the victim. The victim then controls himself the moment he realises it is now a police officer attacking him and not one of the multiple men who were attacking him a fraction of a second earlier. In my opinion Birmingham Police should drop the charges against this young man and ask the officer why she went for the victim on the ground and not the attackers!
Birmingham Police@BrumPolice

We are aware of footage showing the arrest of a man after a disorder on Broad Street at 1.30am on 21 June. Officers found a group of men fighting. As the incident was dealt with, an officer was punched. One man was arrested and charged with assaulting a police officer.
